Eitzen City Council members heard several positive compliments about the town’s Fourth of July celebration including the fireworks which went off with a bang. The mayor said that he would like to see some numbers and expects that the Lions Club will have some at their meeting following this night’s council meeting. Mayor Adamson called the July 11 regularly scheduled meeting of the Eitzen City Council meeting to order at 6:04 p.m. Council members in attendance: Mayor Adamson, Doug Meyer, Mitch Lange, and Mitch Luttchens. Emily Burrichter was absent. Others in attendancewere Darryl Meyer, City Maintenance, and City Clerk Steve Schuldt.
The mayor noted that there were no water or electrical problems during the celebration. The Houston County Sheriff’s presence was greatly appreciated.
The council unanimously approved the minutes from the June 13 council meeting as presented and the June financial reports.
Unfinished business
The main street sidewalk project will start next week, July 17. The mayor informed the council that one tree will have to be removed and will require some landscaping after it is removed. Luttchens informed the council that the Wiegrefe Senior Housing will be talking with the contractor this week about installing a sidewalk in front of the facilities. The proposed plan is for the sidewalk to connect to the city sidewalk which would require the city extending the sidewalk one more lot to the east. About halfway down the sidewalk there would be a circle with either a fountain, a flag, or a statue in the center and each unit could have a flower basket bordering the circle. The sidewalk will tie into the north entrance. The mayor emphasized that it would look “pretty cool.”
The community center remodeling project is on pause for the time being but will be kept on the agenda.
The city’s water meter project is going well. Approximately eight to 10 people have not yet responded.
New business
Certificate of Deposit (CD) number 17076 matures on July 11. Councilmember Luttchens informed the council that the bank set the interest rate on a six-month CD at 5% earlier today. The council decided there was no need to split the CD because the city has plenty of cash on hand. The council accepted Luttchens’ recommendation to renew the CD.
St. Luke’s Church submitted a building permit application for the parsonage, which was unanimously approved. The plan is to build a 22’ by 28’ addition. The diagram submitted with the application shows a garage, but the mayor noted that the garage is not being done. It is everything to the west. The mayor noted the basement and roof line and confirmed that the setbacks are all “hunky dory.”
The last item of business before adjourning the meeting was to approve paying the June bills. Since there were no questions or comments, the council unanimously approved last month’s claims.
The mayor called to adjourn the meeting at 6:28 p.m.
