Eitzen City Council members in attendance at the June 9, 2021, regular meeting were Mayor Jeffrey Adamson, Emily Burrichter, Mitch Lange, Doug Meyer, and Mitch Luttchens. Others in attendance were City Clerk Steve Schuldt, Darryl Meyer, maintenance, Larry Nieling, local business owner, and Charlene Selbee, Fillmore County Journal.
Mayor Adamson called the May 11 meeting of the Eitzen City Council to order at 7:04 p.m.
The council unanimously approved the minutes of the May 11, 2021, regular city council meeting.
The council reviewed the financial reports (cash control statement, current investments, indebtedness activity, receipts register, disbursements register, arrears report). After Schuldt answered council cembers’ questions, the council approved the financial reports.
Unfinished business
The mayor has not heard anything about the pole inspection, so it will not happen until after the Fourth.
The town has not received a quote to fill in the sidewalk gaps as the company is busy. However, they are aware of the project and will get a quote submitted.
Some lights have been installed at the ballpark. One pole might need to be replaced as it looks bad from above. Finishing the work is dependent on the availability of a lift. The poles are 60-feet tall, and most of the lifts in the area do not go that high. The mayor indicated that he does have a plan B.
New business
Family Fun Fest update: Schuldt needs to get the Lion’s liquor license. The fire department will cover the tractor pull, demolition derby, and fireworks, and the sheriff is scheduled to bring the command center down on July 3.
The town received two options to redo the blacktop at Carsten Corner. The council accepted the first option.
Mayor Adamson informed the council that there was another dog issue since the last meeting. The mayor spoke with the owner telling him that the dog is now on probation and if there is another issue, the dog will be removed from town. Councilman Luttchens also spoke with the owner, and the owner understands and has the dog on a leash and under the owners’ care. Luttchens mentioned that the dog is now on a leash when the owner has the dog out for a walk. This situation led to a conversation regarding the town’s ordinance and enforcement. Eitzen’s dog ordinance was passed and enacted on March 29, 1983. Councilmembers were asked to review the town’s ordinance, specifically the section on enforcement, and look at dog ordinances in other communities before the next council meeting.
Maintenance report
“The tires are turning on the irrigation system, the lawnmower is working, and hopefully all the weeds are sprayed,” updated Meyer.
After reviewing the May claims payable, the council unanimously approved paying the May bills.
