The April 9 meeting of the Eitzen City Council was brief as the board took care of business in 22 minutes.
The mayor called the regularly scheduled meeting to order at 6:07 p.m.
All council members, including Mayor Jeff Adamson, Emily Burrichter, Mitch Lange, Mitch Luttchens, and Doug Meyer, were present.
Others in attendance included City Clerk Steve Schuldt and Maintenance Supervisor Darryl Meyer.
The meeting agenda, minutes from the March 12 council meeting, and the March financial reports were unanimously approved. Schuldt noted that the checkbook balanced. Schuldt updated the council on which delinquent accounts would be sent letters and which residents are working on settling their accounts.
The Eitzen Fire Department received a call regarding a possible heart attack but had only the address because the dispatcher is not allowed to provide a name due to privacy laws. The department then faced difficulties in locating the home because not all the homes in Eitzen have house numbers. Eitzen Fire Chief and Councilmember Doug Meyer subsequently proposed that every home has house numbers. Both Councilmembers Meyer and Mitch Lange, also a fire department member, stressed the need for consistency in house numbers regarding placement, size, and color. It was recommended that the city and department split the cost of the signs. City Clerk Steve Schuldt proposed using Public Safety funds from the state to purchase the signs. Maintenance Supervisor Meyer will provide samples so the council can decide on the color and size. The council was in agreement that it was a good idea. Chief Meyer said he would even install them if necessary.
Mayor Jeff Adamson said that there was a request to ordinance number 8, Section 1 of the revised animal and fowl ordinance now reads: “PERMIT REQUIRED. No chickens or turkeys or other fowl, or any hogs, cattle, sheep, goats, or horses, shall be kept on any premises within the corporate limits of this municipality unless a special permit therefor is issued by an Agent of the City after an inspection of the premises and a finding of fact that no nuisance will be created thereby. Such permit shall not be renewed without a re-inspection.”
Maintenance Supervisor Meyer did not have anything to report.
The mayor did not have any updates to share with the council regarding the Habitat for Humanity house at 204 Iowa Ave. N. Supervisor Meyer said that someone from Habitat for Humanity was at the house on Monday.
The trench box just needs to be picked up, which should happen either this week or next.
All the electric meters have been ordered, with the installation of the meters starting after April 14.
The Local Board of Appeal meeting is April 25 at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at city hall.
The council voted unanimously to renew Gator’s Bar & Grill’s liquor license; they also approved a liquor license for the Eitzen Lions Club 4th of July celebration.
Before adjourning the meeting at 6:29 p.m., the council unanimously approved paying the bills.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Eitzen City Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 14, at 6 p.m. The city council meeting is held in city hall (next to the fire station) at 202 East Main Street, Eitzen, Minn.
