Eitzen Community Center remodeling project discussed

March 14, 2022 by Charlene Corson Selbee

The Eitzen City Council met in regular session on Tuesday, March 8, from 6:04- 6:59 p.m. at Eitzen City Hall.

Mayor Jeffrey Adamson and Councilmembers Mitch Lange, Emily Burrichter, and Mitch Luttchens were all in attendance. Doug Meyer was absent. Others in attendance included Darryl Meyer, maintenance, and Steve Schuldt, city clerk.

The council unanimously approved the February 8 city council meeting minutes.

The council unanimously approved the financial report with the stipulation that a letter will be sent to the delinquent account holders notifying them that their electric service would be limited as of March 23 if they had not made a payment or arrangements with the city. Mayor Adamson noted that Houston County Commissioners allocated $40,000 to the Eitzen Fire Department and $5,000 to the First Responders.

Unfinished business

The city is still looking into purchasing a generator for the well house using the American Rescue Plan, $13,605.64. The $13,605.64 American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds are not enough to cover the cost of a generator. Mayor Adamson said, “It is a good idea to have an emergency plan.” The fire department plans to purchase a generator for the fire station.

The council discussed remodeling the area of the community center that formerly housed Jackie’s Hair Design. The discussion centered on storage space for tables, chairs, and handicap bathrooms before the discussion morphed into a conversation regarding the use of the upstairs, an addition to the building, and a new roof. It was the consensus of the council that they needed more numbers before making a decision.

No action was taken on the smart meters as the city is waiting for additional information.

The council decided to wait before deciding about the tennis court and a community LED sign. The mayor noted he would be attending the Lions Club meeting after the city council meeting regarding these two projects.

New Business

The city must have one representative at the Local Board of Appeal & Equalization (LBAE) meeting on April 26 at 6 p.m. Councilmember Luttchens will represent Eitzen at the meeting.

The council adopted the resolution reestablishing precincts and polling places, noting that there were no changes.

Mayor Adamson appointed Councilmember Lang and Meyer with assistance from Schuldt to complete the weed control report and submit the report on time.

Discussion

Meyer asked Councilmember Burrichter if the digital map she created of the electric poles in town could be printed with the poles’ numbers in the circles on the map. Burrichter felt it could be done and will look into it.

The next regular meeting of the Eitzen City Council is Tuesday, April 12, at 6 p.m., Eitzen City Hall (next to the fire station), 202 East Main Street, Eitzen. Contact Steve Schuldt, city clerk, at (507) 495-3017 or eitzen@acegroup.cc. Office hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
