Mayor Jeffrey Adamson and councilmembers Emily Burrichter and Doug Meyer were sworn in by City Clerk Steve Schuldt and received a warm welcome back at the Tuesday, January 10, Eitzen City Council meeting.
Mayor Adamson called the meeting to order at 6:07 p.m. at the Eitzen City Hall.
Eitzen council members in attendance included Mayor Jeffrey Adamson, Emily Burrichter, Doug Meyer, Mitch Luttchens, and Mitch Lange. Also in attendance was City Clerk Steve Schuldt.
The council unanimously approved the minutes from the December 14, 2022, regular city council meeting and the December financial reports. They also approved paying the bills. Council member Luttchens recommended pulling $150,000 out of the money market account and invest it in a 6-month CD at 4% as the money market account is currently paying 2.75%. The council agreed that moving the funds made sense.
Unfinished business
• The mayor informed the council that drawings will be created for the community center remodeling project. The mayor plans to call a committee meeting at the end of January and to get the project moving forward. Due to the remodeling of the community center, it does not make sense to redo the rental agreement and change the rates at this time. The agreement and rates will be reviewed after the project is completed. The mayor thinks that the project will be completed in phases. Phase 1 is the back addition and upstairs. Phase 2 is the two bathrooms.
• In 2020, four tires were installed on the irrigation system, and in 2021 four more tires were installed, completing the project. At the February 14 meeting the council will have two or three options to review. The mayor expects the town to recoup some of the cost expended to purchase the tires.
New business
• The council approved the mayor’s 2023 appointments;
• The Local Board of Appeal and Equalization (LBAE) hearing will be held on April 23, 2023, at 6 p.m. at city hall.
• Zoning fees will remain as they are. Councilwoman Burrichter joking asked if the city issues more than two building permits per year.
• Adamson asked Luttchens to schedule a meeting with Kent Whitcomb, MiEnergy to discuss electric fees. It was noted that the sewer and water rates were revised last year. The council approved leaving the water rates as is. The base rate for recycling is $18.50.
• The Senior Housing committee asked Luttchens to bring up, “If the city would be receptive to taking that over at some time.” A decision is not necessary at this time.
