Doris June Barkeim peacefully entered her eternal home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 2, 2024. She was 96 years old.
Doris was born on January 13, 1928, in rural Mabel, Minn. She was the daughter of Nelvin and Ida Garness. Doris graduated from Mabel High School.
Doris received a teaching certificate from Winona Normal School (now known as Winona State University). She worked as an elementary school teacher in Spring Grove and Rushford. While she was student teaching at North Warren School, Doris and Lowell met.
On June 25, 1950, Doris joined in marriage with Lowell Barkeim. Together, they raised their family on a farm near Lewiston, Minn. In her role as a homemaker, Doris dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her family.
Doris’s unwavering faith in God radiated from her soul in all that she did. She was baptized and confirmed at Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel. Her commitment to her Savior provided Doris with comfort, strength, and hope.
Doris is survived by her six children, Karen (John) Warmuth of Hartford, Wis., Rollin (Debra) Barkeim of Winona, Minn., Brian (Barbara) Barkeim of Winona, Minn., Bruce (Deborah) Barkeim of Winona, Minn., Darrell Barkeim of Milwaukee, Wis., and Lori (Steve) Hungerholt of Rushford, Minn.; 17 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lowell, two sisters, one brother, and one grandchild.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at 11 a.m. with visitation held at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 180 Williams St., Lewiston, Minn. Doris will be laid to rest at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Christian Life Resources.
