David “Dave” George Hovland “Hovey”, age 80, of Le Sueur, passed away on July 18, 2024. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 1-4 p.m. at his home, 101 South Park Lane, Le Sueur, Minn. Interment will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, Minn., at a later date.
Dave was born on December 8, 1943, to George and Adelaide (Marker) Hovland in Winona, Minn. Dave’s father George died in WWII, and his mother remarried Arthur Halvorson. He grew up in Rushford, Minn., where he spent a lot of his time skiing. Following his high school years, Dave joined the United States Army, where he served from 1967-1971.
After his service, Dave married Donna (Niggle) Dubbs, and had four stepchildren and a son. They later divorced and he remarried Susan Felmlee and had their son. They later divorced. Throughout the years, Dave had various jobs including working as a custodian for the Le Sueur-Henderson High School and becoming a CNA in Belle Plaine, Minn.
Dave was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, especially ginseng hunting, and fishing. Towards the end of his life, going for long drives was one of Dave’s favorite activities. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents George and Adelaide, stepfather Arthur Halvorson, sister Marjo, and former wife Susan Steffen.
Dave is survived by his former wife Donna Hovland of Chaska, Minn.; brothers,Gerald “Smokey” Hovland of Rushford, Minn., and George (Barb) Hovland of Rushford, Minn.; brother-in-law Maynard Johnson of Rushford, Minn.; children Paul (Lori) Hovland of Le Sueur, Minn., Myke (Diane) Hovland of Jordan, Minn., Nicholas Hovland of Minneapolis, Minn., Phillip Griep of Le Sueur, Minn., and Jessica Latzke of Pottstown, Pa.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews; extended family: Dave, Jill and Leah of Le Sueur, Minn.; and many friends and relatives.
