Curtis Ewald Schroeder, 89 year years old, of Caledonia, Minn., passed away peacefully on September 19, 2024 at Green Lea Manor in Mabel, Minn. He was a resident at Green Lea for two years following a stroke.
Curt was born on April 21,1935, to Ewald and Edna Schroeder at their home in rural Caledonia. He attended Caledonia Public Schools where he participated in basketball, football and FFA. He was the first president of the FFA Chapter beginning in 1952.
Curtis began his lifelong farming career at a young age due to the early death of his father. He and his brother Roger farmed together for many years.
Curtis married Shirley Ellingson on October 15, 1955, in Spring Grove, Minn. They had four children: Kari, Craig, Patti and Todd. They had a busy life raising cattle and crops on the farm while Shirley taught school in the Caledonia School System.
Curtis and Shirley enjoyed many trips in the United States and in other countries. They hosted exchanged students from El Salvador, Brazil and Norway. They loved spending time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Curtis is survived by his wife Shirley, his children Kari (Scott) Broghamer, Craig Schroeder, Patti (Dave) Hetrick and Todd (Jean) Schroeder. They have 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Nancy Schroeder.
Curtis was preceeded in death by his parents, his in-laws Grant and Alma Ellingson, sister Dorothy Runningen, (Vernon and Brian Runningen), brother Roger Schroeder, brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Audrey Ellingson (Michael Ellingson) and grandson-in-law Alex Herbst.
Curt’s family expresses their gratitude to the Green Lea Staff for the care and compassion he received and Mayo Hospice for their support.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Sunday, September 22, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Caledonia, with visitation from 12:30-2 p.m. at the church. Burial followed the luncheon at Evergreen Cemetery, Caledonia.McCormick funeral Home, Caledonia, assisted the family.
