After advertising for a high school graduate for seasonal work and getting no applicants, the city of Rushford Village decided to change the job description and re-advertise the position. CRV is now searching for applicants who are 16 or older with a valid driver’s license. The summer employee would mow and do light maintenance for CRV.
While a young worker would not be able to use equipment such as chainsaws or drive vehicles with large trailers, the council felt such an employee could do the mowing at CRV Hall and in South Rushford which takes Chiglo a solid day at this time. The employee could also serve as a road guard and traffic control while Chiglo does ditch work and help with removal of brush.
Public Works/Maintenance Supervisor Trenten Chiglo was contacted via text to make sure he felt such an employee would be able to help enough with the necessary work. Chiglo was amenable to the idea; the council decided to advertise the position at once.
Ordinances
Both the proposed liquor ordinance and the gambling ordinance have been reviewed by City Attorney Joseph O’Koren. The ordinances are modeled after the League of Minnesota Cities’ example ordinances. The council decided to take their time in reviewing the ordinances. They tabled the ordinances and decided to send them to Planning and Zoning to review as well, wanting to have “more eyes” looking them over.
Planning and Zoning
Jon Pettit, Planning and Zoning administrator, reported that four new permits had been issued. Daniel Anderson received a permit for a chicken coop at Oakview Loop. David Handoff’s permit was for the replacement of windows and siding at his property on County Line Road. Dave Lind received two permits – one for replacing two broken windows and one for the construction of a greenhouse at his property on State Highway 43 South.
Roads/Water/Sewer
Clerk Mary Miner updated the council on recent work that Trenten Chiglo had been doing. Miner reported that gravel had been added to some of the city roads and wood chips had been delivered for the new merry-go-round area at the city hall.
Chiglo has been busy mowing and grading roads. A screen has been fixed in the pump house.
A pipe has broken in the lift station in South Rushford. Mike Ebner said this had also happened in 2018 and had been repaired. He suggested it be fixed again and soon before more rain.
Financials
Mary Miner informed the council that April expenses totaled $54,271.79 and April receipts were $18,671.83. FEMA/State Reimbursement for flood damage which had occurred in June/July 2024 accounted for $7,843.11 of the total receipts.
Other Business
In other business the council passed a resolution approving State of Minnesota Joint Powers Agreement. This resolution is passed annually. The total expense is $780, which is divided among the four cities served.
Clerk Mary Miner reminded the council of the upcoming road tour meeting. The regular council meeting will be continued on May 20, 2025 when the council will complete their annual road tour at 5:30 p.m. before their next regular meeting at 7 p.m. Planning and Zoning will still also meet at 5:30 p.m. on May 20, 2025.
