Grand Meadow Economic Development Authority Creates COVID-19 Relief for Small Businesses and Child Care with micro-grant programs.
The Grand Meadow Economic Development Authority (EDA) has created two Micro-Grant programs for Grand Meadow area small businesses and child care providers to help ease the financial burdens brought about by COVID-19!
“Like so many area communities, our small businesses have been hit incredibly hard the past several months as a result of COVID-19,” said Chris Hahn, EDA Director for Grand Meadow. “The EDA has funds available that because of COVID-19 will not be able to be used as initially planned. Our EDA believes this a great way to reallocate those funds and make them available quickly to our local businesses and child care providers with immediate needs.”
Small Businesses are encouraged to apply for one of six micro-grants of up to $1,500, while child care providers can apply for one of nine micro-grants in the amount of up to $1,000. Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Funds can be used for expenses incurred due to COVID-19 after March 16, 2020, when Minnesota Governor Tim Walz ordered small businesses, including salons, restaurants, and bars, to close to the public. Micro-Grant awards can also be used for investments and facility improvements required by new COVID-19 business guidelines.
James Christian of the Grand Meadow City Council and EDA Board member, mentioned that, “there are a number of businesses in town that have experienced not only a loss of income due to the pandemic but have or will have to make physical changes to ensure the health and safety of their customers. The Grand Meadow EDA feels that it is part of our mandate and our mission to help these businesses make these adjustments so our town can continue to thrive.”
