The Eitzen City Council met in a regular session on June 9 and agreed to host an open house on June 27 at the Wiegrefe Senior Housing apartments. The open house will be held early in the afternoon.
Mayor Jeff Adamson called the meeting to order at 6:07 p.m. Council members Doug Meyer, Mitch Lange, Mitch Luttchens, Emily Burrichter and Adamson were present. City staff attending were City Clerk Steve Schuldt and City Maintenance Supervisor Darryl Meyer. Ethan Lapham was also in attendance.
Wiegrefe Senior Housing Property Manager Ethan Lapham and Board member Mitch Luttchens both presented their first quarterly reports. Lapham said that overall, they have quite a bit of new interest. He has had a lot of inquiries. There are three open units that he is looking to fill. He has been working on “flipping rooms” after the residents moved out. He has also updated the lease agreement.
Councilor Luttchens reported that the net gain is $14,116.53, which matches the bank statement. He announced that he spoke with the Houston County Assessor who informed him that real estate taxes are exempt, saving the city an estimated $20,000.
The council approved the minutes from the May 12 regular city council meeting. They also reviewed and approved the city’s financial statements.
The city still has not heard from MiEnergy regarding rates. Mayor and Maintenance Supervisor Meyer will be attending the MiEnergy meeting on June 18 in Rushford. The mayor plans to ask a few questions about utility rates.
The town is ready for its July 4 celebration. Prior to the council meeting, the mayor answered a few questions about the town’s upcoming festivities in honor of the United States of America 250th Anniversary. He said that extra live entertainment has been scheduled, and the Lions Club is stepping up the fireworks display. There will also be a car show on July 3, and attendees can enjoy a Chicken-Q meal.
The fire department, sheriff’s office, and first responders met last week, according to Mayor Adamson. Schuldt said that the city is waiting for the Lions’ beer license and the liquor license for Gators.
Mayor Adamson said that the water, sewer and electricity are all good. Councilor Burrichter asked why the water was brown a few weeks ago. Supervisor Meyer replied that he would be flushing the water at the end of the week.
The council unanimously approved paying the bills before adjourning the council meeting at 6:33 p.m.
