The Chatfield City Council’s October 23 meeting was relatively brief. Councilor Josh Broadwater was absent.
The contract between Community and Economic Development Associates (CEDA) and the Chatfield EDA was approved for a period of one year beginning January 1, 2024. The city receives staffing services, expertise, and materials to assist with the EDA’s community and business development projects. The EDA reimburses CEDA for staff time at a rate not to exceed $51,023 annually.
Other Business in Brief
• Steve Schlichter, Wastewater Treatment Facility superintendent, explained the need for replacement parts for the Vactor sewer cleaning truck. Approval was granted to replace 600 foot of jetting hose, the leader hose, and an 8-inch vac pipe. A quote from MacQueen Equipment was approved in the amount of $3,204.88.
Schlichter added the accumulator for the Vactor also needs replacement. Approval was also granted for that purchase costing $2,432.32. The total improvements for the sewer cleaning truck will cost $5,637.20.
• The resignation of EMT Leslie Tannahill after 20 years of working with Chatfield Ambulance Service was accepted, effective November 1. Tannahill is certified with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). Councilor Mike Urban recognized Tannahill for years of service, adding, “we appreciate it.” Mayor John McBroom said Tannahill was a big asset to the ambulance crew.
• Approval was given for the use of City Park by Chatfield Alliance to display 10 evergreen trees from November 15 to February 3.
• The Committe of the Whole met before the council meeting. Mike Bubany, David Drown Associates, updated committee members on the city’s Capital Improvement Finance Program which can affect budgeting for the next 10 to 15 years.
• John Pfursich was hired as a Maintenance Worker.
• A donation of $10,000 from the Chatfield Fire Fighters Activities Association was accepted to be used for Fire Truck/Equipment needs.
• McBroom extended his condolences to the Narveson family. Dean Narveson passed away on October 12. McBroom said Dean gave a lot of his time to the city of Chatfield.
• The city council will meet next on November 13.
