Ambulance Director Rocky Burnett recommended the hire of Edin Lopez Sifontes as a part-time EMT at the city council’s November 12 meeting. Councilor Josh Broadwater was absent.
Burnett said there had only been one applicant; he was interviewed and qualified for the part-time position. His start date has yet to be determined. Sifontes was hired as recommended.
Burnett explained approval of the Olmsted County Hazard Mitigation Plan will make the city eligible to receive FEMA hazard mitigation assistance grants. Participating jurisdictions are eligible for FEMA assistance. A resolution to adopt the plan was approved as presented.
Other Business in Brief
- City engineer Craig Britton explained the list of items regarding the 2023 Street Improvement Project have been completed. He recommended the final payment in the amount of $94,436.14 be paid to Griffin Construction. The total original amount of the contract was $1,759,308.26. Payment #7, the final payment, was approved as recommended. Britton said with the final payment a one-year warranty period begins; the contractor will be responsible if there are repair issues.
- Payment #7 to Killmer Electric Co. Inc. for the 2022 Water System Improvement Project was tabled to allow the Public Works committee more time for review.
- Steve Schlichter, Wastewater Treatment Facility, explained a prohibited species permit from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will allow them to keep reedbeds for a period of time. Non-native Phragmites are considered an invasive species but will be allowed in previously established reedbeds for biosolid dewatering purposes. The permit is valid until December 31, 2025. Approval was given to sign the permit and to send it back to the DNR.
- A resolution was adopted approving OHV Trail Assistance Program Maintenance Agreement. The city of Chatfield is the local government sponsor. Chatfield Trails, Inc. maintains the trail.
- Approval was granted to advertise for a swimming pool manager for next year.
- City Administrator Michele Peterson announced Ordinance 475, 2025 Omnibus Fee Schedule, is available for review. The council will vote on whether or not to approve it as presented in a couple of weeks.
- Mayor John McBroom thanked those who supported his reelection, and he congratulated councilors who will be returning.
- The city council meeting was recessed until November 15 for the canvassing board to consider the results of the 2024 election.
