At the May 26 meeting of the Chatfield City Council, a quote for Thurber Building repairs was approved. Councilors Dave Frank and Paul Novotny were absent.
A proposal/quote had been submitted in the amount of $64,435 by Benike Construction to repair and mitigate the water damage to the Fillmore Room and the mayor’s office. Tuckpointing repairs are needed along with the replacement and installation of four windows and window sills. On the inside new sheet rock will need to be installed which will need to be taped and painted. Salvaged wood trim will then be reinstalled and stained as needed.
Other Business in Brief
•Brian Burkholder requested approval for the purchase and installation of a 52-foot by 40-foot hoop shed for storing winter sand and salt. The undercover storage in the shed will eliminate salt residual washing into streams and make loads lighter and easier to spread. The Public Works Committee considered two quotes. It was recommended to approve the lower quote submitted by Greenfield (Clermont, Iowa) in the amount of $50,500. The funds for the shed are to be paid out of the Storm Fund.
•City Administrator Michele Peterson said it was an honor to announce Library Director Monica Erickson’s intention to retire toward the end of 2026. Erickson plans to work with the Library Board on succession planning to make the transition go smoothly.
•A Lexipol Policy contract was approved as recommended by the Police Chief Scott Keigley. Policies will be provided for the policy manual and the procedural manual. Lexipol provides for real time changes as they occur at the state level and provides training when changes occur. Lexipol services and fees total $5,736.
The department is down one officer; Ken Gallion was terminated after being picked up while in full uniform for driving while intoxicated.
•An amendment to the Amco 3rd Development Agreement was approved as recommended.
•Authorization was granted to approve $12,987 for licensing and labor to secure Microsoft Server licenses to create an additional virtual server on existing hardware and to change Cisco licensing to Secure Connect Complete Essentials Package.
•Ambulance donations in the amount of $255 were accepted.
•A donation in the amount of $1,000 from People’s Energy Cooperative Trust was accepted. The funds are to be used toward an equipment purchase (snow plow).
•Library donations in the total amount of $97 were approved to be used for purchases for the Chatfield Public Library.
•Ambulance Fund donations in the amount of $5,610 were accepted.
•A donation of gambling funds in the amount of $50,000 for the Fire Department to be put into the equipment fund was accepted.
