Six firms participated in Chatfield’s search process for a city engineer and city planner/zoning administrator. At their August 10 meeting, the Chatfield City Council appointed personnel from the design and consulting firm WiDSETH to fill these positions.
Councilor Mike Urban said the firms they considered were all well qualified. The Personnel/Budget Committee recommended WiDSETH at the end of this process.
The appointments are effective immediately. Craig Britton will serve as the city’s consulting engineer and Logan Tjossem will serve as the city’s planner and zoning administrator.
Individuals currently serving in these roles will continue until currently active projects are completed. Mayor Russ Smith thanked the city’s current engineer from WSB.
Other business in brief
•A development agreement between the city and Hilltop Estates LLC (developer) was approved. Chris Giesen, EDA, explained this is the same agreement that was approved in 2018. However, that contract has since lapsed. The agreement is for the development of six lots, about 2.38 acres (Wisdom Ln. to the east).
A similar development agreement between the city and G-Cubed Development, Inc. that has been updated was approved. The six lots will be along an extension of Amco Ln. Giesen said it will need to be platted.
•Brian Burkholder reported that he had a bid from Kendell Doors & Hardware, Inc. for five fiberglass, security, service doors. The total cost for the doors and security equipment is $20,616. Fiberglass doors are pre-painted and maintenance free. Two of the doors are for the city shop and will be paid for out of public works budget. Three are for the fire hall. The purchase of the doors as presented was approved.
•City Clerk Joel Young reported on discussions with MnDOT concerning the replacement of the bridge on Highway 30 between Highway 52 and Mill Creek Rd. The bridge is to be replaced in 2022. Plans are being considered for sidewalks on both sides of the road from Highway 52 to Mill Creek Rd. and possibly a bike lane. Accommodations could be made for a bike path under the bridge on the west side of the creek. Decisions on lighting will need to be made. They are also looking at features that could naturally slow traffic.
•Mayor Smith said the saddle club events at Mill Creek Park last weekend were well attended; it was a good event. This is a portion of the annual Western Days that went ahead as close to normal as possible.
The council approved the use of Groen Park for the Lost Creek Hiking Trail Team Challenge to be held August 29. This event is usually held during Western Days, the Western Days Stampede.
