Chatfield Advertises for City Attorney

At the June 22 meeting of the Chatfield City Council, a request for proposals for the provision of comprehensive municipal legal services was approved. Councilors Josh Broadwater and Pam Bluhm were absent.

City Administrator Michele Peterson explained the request for proposals for civil representation was reviewed by both the Personnel/Budget Committee and City Attorney Fred Suhler.

Other Business in Brief

• Mayor John McBroom reported on the Committee of the Whole. Bathrooms in City Park were discussed. The city plans to make overall bathroom improvements and to provide an ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant bathroom.

At the June 8 meeting of the city council Todd French, a resident of Chatfield, asked the council to consider displaying both the new version of the state flag and the 1983 state flag. The city council had approved a policy to display the 1983 version of the Minnesota State Flag on city property at the April 27, 2026, meeting. McBroom reported, after more discussion during this day’s Committee of the Whole meeting, the current display of the 1983 version of the state flag on city property will continue as is.

• Ambulance Department Fund Drive donations in the amount of $4,740 were accepted.

• A resolution was adopted granting approval of an amendment to the VFW Club liquor license. The amendment will add Sunday sales to their liquor license.

• An agreement between the city and E & J Underground for a land lease was approved. E & J Underground will pay the city $500 per month for the lease for a term of January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026.

• McBroom said stop signs mean stop. He asked drivers to keep their eyes open as there are a lot of kids about. Councilor Dave Frank said operators of golf carts on streets must be at least 16 with a driver’s license and golf carts must be registered. Councilor Mike Urban reminded property owners that long grass and nuisances need to be addressed.

• Peterson reported that the fire truck that has been out of commission will be back in service soon.
