Charlotte Lorraine Solum, age 99, of Spring Grove, died on April 19, 2025, at Spring Grove Assisted Living, surrounded by her family.
She was born on May 23, 1925, in Choice, Minn., to LeRoy and Clara (Ryan) Hauge.
She moved with her family in 1933 to manage the Fillmore County Poor Farm for a few years, until her parents bought their farm in Spring Grove.
She graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1943. She received her RN degree from Fairview in 1947. After graduation she spent one year in Middleton, Conn., working at the hospital before returning to work at Fairview, until getting married to Alden Solum on December 10, 1949. The couple farmed in Black Hammer Township. She worked as an RN at the Spring Grove Hospital and was also the school nurse for a few years at Spring Grove Public Schools. She was also one of the original starting members of the Houston County Public Health Program.
She is survived by her children James Solum, Kathy (David) Overland and Ed Solum (Nancy Berry), of Spring Grove; eight grandchildren: Brent (Dawn), Jaymie, and Ryan (Jenny) Solum; Carl, Eric (Marcia) and Mark Overland; Kelly (Justin) Gartner and Pete (Kayla) Solum; 15 grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alden, on December 16, 2008; daughter-in-law Cheryl Solum, her parents, her mother and father-in-law Adolph and Inga Solum, eight in-laws and four nephews.
Funeral services for (Charlotte) Lorraine will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 2 p.m. Visitation will be on Saturday from 12-2 p.m. at the Church. Pastor Lane Zaffke will officiate. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
