Celebrate flag day by retiring your worn-out U.S. flag

May 27, 2019 by Fillmore County Journal

Once again in conjunction with Flag Day, Lanesboro’s American Legion Post #40 will conduct its annual flag retirement ceremony.  The event will be held on Friday, June 14, at 6:30 p.m. at the Bass Pond parking lot on Co. Rd. 8, just across the Root River from downtown Lanesboro.

The public is welcome to attend the event.  If not able to be at the ceremony itself, people are welcome to drop off their torn or tattered flags at the Legion or at the Lanesboro City Office.  These will be included in the ceremony.

Proper and respectful retirement of the U.S. flag includes protocol which provides “…dignified disposal of unserviceable flags.”  It must be conducted outdoors and in the evening.

New flags may be purchased at the Legion during its regular open hours, located at 103 Elmwood, Lanesboro.
