Caledonia Welcomes New Police Officer

Gretchen Braun, surrounded by family and fellow officers, took the oath of office for the Caledonia Police Department at the city council’s April 13 meeting. Houston Begins Search for Superintendent

The Houston School Board began a search for a new superintendent at their regular board meeting April 9. With Superintendent Mary Morem resigning from her position, the board needs to move quickly to find a replacement. Derek Olinger, representing Bolton & Menk, addressed the Houston City Council April 13 at their regular meeting to update them on the Spruce Street project scheduled for this summer. Olinger reported that the bids had been received and were favorable. The city of Houston will be responsible for $1.7 million of the cost. At the April 13 meeting of the Chatfield City Council the new police chief was sworn in. Councilor Dave Frank was absent. Harmony Begins Preparations for Annual 4th of July Celebration

The annual Local Board of Appeal and Equalization was held at the April 14 Harmony City Council meeting. Fillmore County Appraiser Stefan Holets reviewed the taxes and appeal process with the council, noting that property taxes are up about 2% in Fillmore County, but that Harmony is down approximately 4.5% overall. Town Line Road Reconstruction Approved by Eitzen Council

The Eitzen City Council met in a regular session on April 14 and approved a quote from Dunn Blacktop for $106,965.50 to completely redo Town Line Road in Eitzen this summer. Town Line Road (Highway 76 to Portland Ave.) is scheduled for June and will be completed in time for the town’s annual 4th of July celebration.
