The Board of Education of Independent School District No. 299, Caledonia, Minnesota, met in a regular school board meeting in the elementary building room #162. The meeting was called to order by School Board Chair Mike Peterson at 5:30 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was said. The school board members present were Derek Adamson, Julie Augedahl, Leigh King, Melissa Marschall, Mike Peterson, Spencer Yohe, and school board student representatives Samantha Peters and Phoebe Lampert. Also present were Craig Ihrke, Nathan Boler, John Wahlstrom, Gretchen Juan, Barb Meyer, Karen Schiltz, Matt Stemper, and Kaitlin Longhauser. Absent was Director Chad Harms.
Moved by Derek Adamson, seconded by Melissa Marschall to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. The resolution accepting donations was moved by Spencer Yohe, seconded by Leigh King. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Whereupon, said Resolution was declared duly adopted. Moved by Mike Peterson, seconded by Derek Adamson to approve the following consent agenda items: approval of August 18, 2025, Regular School Board Minutes; approve the electronic transfers and bills due and payable amounting to $439,013.15 along with electronic transfers from MSDLAF to Merchants Bank in the amount of $600,000.00; certify the maximum proposed Levy Limitation Certification for taxes payable in 2026; ratify the 2025-2027 Superintendent Contract as presented; approval of an increase to the licensed staff substitute rates to $150.00 per full day (currently $135.00) and $75.00 per half day (currently $67.50) for days one (1) through twenty (20). Retired Caledonia Area Public School District teachers, as well as other licensed substitutes who have served more than twenty (20) days in the district, will receive an increased rate of $160.00 per full day (currently $140.00) and $80.00 per half day (currently $70.00). Rates effective September 15, 2025; approval of an increase to the support staff substitute hourly rate from $14.25 per hour to $14.75 per hour. Retired Caledonia Area Public School District support staff, as well as substitutes who have served more than twenty (20) days in the district, will receive an increased rate of $15.50 per hour. Rates effective September 15, 2025; approve Student Attendance Policy #503 as updated and presented; approve the termination of Teyanna Ross as a special education para effective her last day on September 11, 2025; accept the resignation of Paige Carmack as a full-time CAPS Care Aide effective August 18, 2025; accept the resignation of Robin Kuennen as a full-time special education para effective August 26, 2025; ratify the hiring of Danielle Weber as a full-time Special Education Para at II/10 years at $18.56 per hour beginning August 26, 2025; ratify the hiring of Dale Stafslien as a school musical assistant at II/0 years at $1,925.00 beginning the 2025-2026 school year; ratify the hiring of Colten Welsh as a part-time Special Education Para at II/2 years at $16.48 per hour beginning August 27, 2025; ratify the hiring of Jordan Tornstrom as a full-time Special Education Para at II/3 years at $16.75 per hour beginning September 8, 2025; and ratify the hiring of Noelle Crawford as a full-time CAPS Care Float Aide at II/8 years at $18.03 per hour beginning September 8, 2025. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Moved by Spencer Yohe. Seconded by Derek Adamson to close the meeting at 6:00 p.m. to discuss a potential referendum. Motion carried by a unanimous vote.
