The Board of Education of Independent School District No. 299, Caledonia, Minnesota, met in a regular school board meeting in the elementary building room #162. The meeting was called to order by Chair Mike Peterson at 6:00 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was said. The school board members present were Derek Adamson, Tim Gunn, Leigh King, Mike Peterson, Daniel Small, Spencer Yohe, and student school board representatives Addison Fruechte and Samantha Peters. Also, present were Craig Ihrke, Nathan Boler, Gretchen Juan, John Wahlstrom, Barb Meyer, Karen Schiltz, and Kaitlin Longhauser. Absent was Director Melissa Marschall.
Moved by Spencer Yohe, seconded by Derek Adamson to approve the agenda as amended to accept the donation of a 2009 Kia minivan and approve the updated MSHS Student/Parent Handbook. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Moved by Daniel Small, seconded by Leigh King to approve the following consent agenda items: approval of July 15, 2024, regular school board meeting minutes; approve the electronic transfers and bills due and payable amounting to $507,576.98 along with electronic transfers from MSDLAF to Merchants Bank in the amount of $300,000.00; approval of the Lease Agreement between Hiawatha Valley Ed District and Caledonia Area Public School District as presented for the 2024-2025 school year; ratify the Early Childhood Family Education and School Readiness employee contracts as presented for Brett Gulbranson, Tayler Schwartzhoff, and Rachel Whitmore for the 2024-2025 school year; approval of the Non-bargaining Administrative Agreement for the Elementary/Middle/High School Administrative Assistants for the 2024-2026 school years as presented; accept the maternity leave request for Hayley Olerud to begin around the birth of her child on October 25, 2024, and to continue through approximately January 20, 2025, depending upon when the baby is born and given there are no complications; accept the resignation of Caitlin Wood as a special education paraprofessional effective immediately with thanks for her past year of service; accept the resignation of Kristina Kirchner as a special education paraprofessional effective immediately with thanks for her past year of service; accept the resignation of Lisa Thomas as a special education paraprofessional effective immediately with thanks for her past year of service; accept the resignation of Jessy Whalen as assistant girls’ soccer effective immediately with thanks for her past year of service; accept the resignation of Grace Mikula as health assistant effective immediately with thanks for her past year of service; accept the resignation of Kaitlin Longhauser as the MSHS media para effective immediately with thanks for her past year of service; ratify the contract for Noah Kearney as a full-time special education paraprofessional at II/5 at $16.82 per hour beginning the 2024-2025 school year; ratify the contract for Rachel Normann as a full-time CAPS Care Aide at I/5 at $16.08 per hour beginning July 29, 2024; ratify the contract for Angela Tamke as the Juvenile Detention Center teacher at MA+30/12 at $76,525.00 beginning the 2024-2025 school year; ratify the contract for Denise Buxengard as a part-time CAPS Care Aide at I/5 at $16.08 per hour beginning July 29, 2024; ratify the contract for Timothy Weisbrod as the assistant boys’ soccer coach at II/0 years at $2,991.00 beginning the 2024-2025 school year; ratify the contract for Libby Stoltz as a full-time special education paraprofessional at II/6 at $17.08 per hour beginning the 2024-2025 school year; ratify the contract for Grace Mikula as the K-12 Student Support Personnel at BA/1 at $47,739.00 beginning the 2024-2025 school year; ratify the contract for Rebecca Wralstad as a full-time health assistant at II/12 years at $18.69 per hour beginning August 21, 2024; ratify the contract for Andrea Palm as a full-time health assistant at II/12 years at $18.69 per hour beginning August 20, 2024; ratify the contract for Nikki Konkel as a full-time special education paraprofessional at II/8 years at $17.59 per hour beginning the 2024-2025 school year; ratify the contract for Sophia Johnson as a full-time special education paraprofessional at II/4 years at $16.59 per hour beginning the 2024-2025 school year; ratify the contract for Kaitlyn Fah as a full-time special education paraprofessional at II/4 years at $16.59 per hour beginning the 2024-2025 school year; and ratify the contract for Valerie Williams as the assistant girls’ soccer coach at II/0 years at $2,991.00 beginning the 2024-2025 school year. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Moved by Spencer Yohe, seconded by Derek Adamson to accept the bid from Alive Telecom for the distributed antenna system for our school district. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Member Spencer Yohe introduced the following Resolution of School Board / Governing Board Supporting Form B Application to Minnesota State High School League Foundation and moved its adoption. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Member Tim Gunn and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Derek Adamson, Tim Gunn, Leigh King, Mike Peterson, Daniel Small, and Spencer Yohe. The following voted against the same: None. Absent: Melissa Marschall. Motion carried. Moved by Derek Adamson, seconded by Mike Peterson to approve the hiring of a junior high girls’ soccer coach for the 2024-2025 school year due to increased numbers in the girls’ soccer program. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Moved by Leigh King, seconded by Tim Gunn to accept the donation of a 2009 Kia Minivan to our school district from Patrician Ann Hill. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Moved by Mike Peterson, seconded by Derek Adamson to approve the updated MSHS Student/Parent Handbook with the changes Mr. Boler presented. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Moved by Mike Peterson, seconded by Derek Adamson to adjourn the meeting at 6:33 p.m. Motion carried by a unanimous vote.
