The Caledonia 16 & under baseball boys finished third among eight teams at the 2021 Junior Legion Division II State Tournament at Montevideo on Aug.ust 6-8. “We played three close, high-intensity games,” said Warrior coach Chad Augedahl. “We played some really good baseball.”

Behind two-hit pitching by Thane Meiners, Caledonia blanked Proctor, 6-0, in Friday’s quarterfinal opener. The Warriors then suffered a 5-2 semi-final setback against eventual runner-up Upsala/Swanville. They bounced back on Sunday with a 3-1 win over Cottonwood in the third place game. Drew Yahnke recorded eight strikeouts during a complete-game pitching performance in that season finale.

“It was a great experience for our players, coaches, parents and fans to watch our team compete in the tournament,” added Augedahl about his Warriors who “finished on a high note by winning our final game and the third place trophy.” Caledonia, which finished with a 10-5 summer record, had qualified for state by winning the Southeast Substate Tournament title.

Starbuck claimed the state championship with three wins in three days, capped by a 4-2 decision against Upsala/Swanville in the title contest.
