With a snow postponement in between, the Caledonia/Spring Grove gymnastics team has competed against Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa in both meets thus far. Both teams scored better in this February 6 rematch at Caledonia – the Warriors at 112.075 and the visitors a very strong 142.975. That PI/ZM total was better than any opponent last year, and the Cal/SG total was better than all but one of last year’s team scores.
“Our score was very good considering we had falls on beam,” said Cal/SG coach Savana Kettner. “They put together a very good meet for sure.”
Panther Sawyer Gorman had the highest individual score at each station. Warrior freshman Braelyn Lange finished fourth in all-around (29.650) with seventh grade teammate Macy Kraus fifth (27.625) and Brianna Johnson sixth (27.225).
It was a promising performance by Kraus in her second appearance in varsity events. “Hope to see her get more confident as the season progresses,” said Kettner.
All three Cal/SG girls scored best on vault with Johnson receiving a sixth-place 8.425, Kraus 8.300 and Lange 8.150. PI/ZM gymnasts had the top five scores in each event; Lange took sixth place on beam, parallel bars and in floor exercise.
