C. Wayne Lenz obituary, Fillmore County Journal

C. Wayne Lenz, age 92, of Harmony, Minn., passed away on September 9, 2024, following a short illness.

Wayne was born on October 21, 1931, to Clarence and Marguerite (Galloway) Lenz in Clear Lake, Iowa.  Wayne graduated from Lyle Minn., High School in 1949.  He enlisted in the United States Air Force in July 1950.  Following his discharge from the Air Force, he moved to Lakota, Iowa, where he farmed for 10 years. He married Ruth Telkamp on December 28, 1951, at First Baptist Church in Blue Earth, Minn. Wayne and Ruth had two children, Dawn and Mark.   

Wayne and Ruth moved to Harmony, Minn., in 1964, where he farmed until he retired.  During his lifetime, Wayne helped with the construction of two churches, one in Blue Earth and another in Decorah, Iowa.  He spent his lifetime collecting trains.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and his three brothers: Marvin, Lewis and Jerry Lenz.  

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Ruth; daughter Dawn McMartin, son Mark (Sue) Lenz, five grandchildren: Shannon Kvaale, Sheila McMartin, Trevor (Jennifer) McMartin, David Lenz and Rachel Lenz; six great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Nancy (Lewis) Lenz.

In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.  

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in Preston, Minn. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024 from 4-6 p.m. at Schmelzer (formerly known as Lindstrom) Funeral Home in Harmony, and again one hour prior to services at the church on Friday morning. Inurnment will be in the Minnesota State Veterans’ Cemetery in Preston. Schmelzer Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
