The Eitzen City Council agreed at its October 11 council meeting that there is a question regarding the 25-foot setback behind the post office that needs to be addressed before approving the Habitat for Humanity building permit application.
Jeremy Reed, a representative from Habitat for Humanity attended the meeting to update the council on the structural changes made to the home and answer any questions. It was confirmed that after the changes to the house it now fits on the property. Mayor Jeffrey Adamson also confirmed, “The setbacks are correct.”
According to council member Mitch Luttchen, the seller sold himself out of compliance. The setback behind the post office must be 25 feet according to city ordinances. After dividing the property, the setback is now less than 25 feet.
The council agreed that they would like to get an answer by Friday so that the Habitat for Humanity project can stay on schedule.
Mayor Adamson called the meeting to order at 6:04 p.m. at the Eitzen City Hall.
Eitzen Council members in attendance include Mayor Jeffrey Adamson, Emily Burrichter, Mitch Luttchens, and Mitch Lange. Doug Meyer was absent.
Others in attendance were City Clerk Steve Schuldt, City Maintenance Darryl Meyer, and Jeremy Reed, Habitat for Humanity.
The council unanimously approved the minutes from the September 13, regularly scheduled meeting.
Meyer believes that the last Star Energy rate study happened five or six years ago. The mayor explained that when the last study was done the city did not have to pay for it, “It was a one-time deal.” There is an event in November that Mayor Adamson plans to attend so he can talk with Star Energy about the possibility of the town doing their own rate study.
Luttchens energetically announced that a pop machine is coming to town followed by cheers from other councilmembers. The machine will be in placed in front of the bank. Luttchens stated, “We need to be able to get a pop in town.”
In other matters, the council:
• Approved the minutes from the October 11 city council meeting, the September financial documents, and the September bills. Schuldt shared that the checkbook balanced and there is money in the bank to pay the bills.
• Tabled the quote received on four irrigation pivot wheels until the beginning of the year. The additional time will allow the city to solicit other quotes.
The meeting adjourned at 7:04 p.m.
