Each year, communities across the country celebrate the Week of the Young Child, an opportunity to recognize the importance of early learning and the educators, families, and programs that support our youngest learners.

The early years of a child’s life are filled with curiosity, discovery, and incredible growth. At Fillmore Central, our early childhood educators are honored to be part of that journey, helping young learners build the foundation for a lifetime of learning.

Early childhood education is about much more than learning letters and numbers. It is about nurturing curiosity, building friendships, strengthening social and emotional skills, and creating a love of learning that can last a lifetime. At Fillmore Central, we proudly offer a comprehensive range of early childhood programs designed for families with children from birth to age five, supporting every stage of development while helping children gain the skills and confidence they need for kindergarten and beyond.

Our School Readiness and Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) programs focus on helping children feel comfortable and confident in a classroom environment. Through engaging activities, structured routines, and supportive teachers, students build essential social, emotional, and academic skills that ease the transition into kindergarten.

One of the many strengths of our program is our four-star Parent Aware rating, which reflects our strong commitment to high-quality early learning and school preparedness.

Families can feel confident knowing their children are learning in an environment designed

to support development, curiosity, and creativity.

Fillmore Central Preschool welcomes children ages three through those entering kindergarten and promotes an inclusive classroom experience. Our classrooms bring together children with a wide range of abilities, including those receiving special education services. This inclusive approach encourages friendships, builds empathy, and helps children learn to celebrate differences while working and learning together.

Our classrooms also utilize the Pyramid Model, an evidence-based framework that supports healthy social and emotional development in young children. By focusing on positive relationships, supportive environments, and effective teaching strategies, we help children develop the skills they need to succeed not only in school, but in life.

Collaboration is another key ingredient in the success of our early childhood programming.

Fillmore Central partners closely with the One Block at a Time Child Care Center to provide coordinated support for families and children in our community.

Through ECSE, we work with families to identify and address developmental challenges as early as possible. For children under the age of three, services are provided through a family-centered model that includes home visits by district staff. For children ages three to five, center-based services are offered within classroom settings where students receive individualized support while participating alongside their peers.

Our Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) program serves families with children from birth and up, offering opportunities for parents and caregivers to learn alongside their children. These programs emphasize strengthening family relationships through parent education, shared activities, and meaningful support. Family engagement is an important part of what we do. Throughout the year, families can participate in monthly child-parent events that encourage connection, play, learn, community involvement and grow together.

The One Block at a Time Child Care Center further supports our youngest learners by providing a nurturing environment for children aged six weeks to entering kindergarten.

Age-appropriate activities are led by dedicated staff who are CPR and First Aid certified, and committed to ongoing professional development.

In addition, our school-age child care program (SAC) offers a safe and supervised setting for elementary students outside of school hours. Children enjoy a variety of activities that encourage creativity, friendship, and positive developmental experiences.

At Fillmore Central, we believe strong beginnings lead to bright futures. During the Week of the Young Child, we are proud to celebrate the joy of learning, the dedication of our educators, and the families who partner with us every day to help our youngest community members grow, explore, and succeed. When we invest in our youngest learners, we truly are investing in the future of our entire community.

Families interested in learning more about Fillmore Central’s early childhood opportunities are encouraged to reach out and discover how our programs can support their child’s early learning journey.
