As the kick-off to Rochesterfest, the annual Olmsted County Breakfast on the Farm gives visitors an opportunity to visit a working farm and learn about farming and farming operations. It also gives farmers and producers the chance to promote the Ag Industry.
This year’s 37th annual Breakfast on the Farm was held on June 21, 2025, at North Creek Dairy near Chatfield, Minn. North Creek Dairy is owned and operated by the Hoffman family including John and Danielle and their son August, along with Corey and Bridget and their children Garrett and Tira. The farm has been in the Hoffman family for 122 years, as it has been in their care since 1903. The current owners are the fourth generation working on the farm. The family milks 500 cows and grows corn and alfalfa.
Just as the warmth of the predicted balmy day for Breakfast on the Farm was beginning, people started arriving in cars to park on site and others were able to take advantage of free bus rides from Mayo High School in Rochester, Minn.
North Creek Dairy was abuzz as there were so many options of what to see and do first. Some of the kids chose to run straight to the two cow-shaped bounce houses which are always popular, while others first choice was the petting zoo featuring several farm animals, making for great photo opportunities, as did the corn pit.
Wagon rides were available either pulled by a tractor or horse-drawn by one of two teams of horses provided by Goldsmith Belgians of Chatfield.
A treat in many ways for visitors was breakfast, enjoying Chris Cakes Pancake Catering, who not only flipped a huge number of pancakes, but they also lobbed the pancakes in the air for anyone who dared to try to catch them with their plates, but everyone also liked the sausages, cheese curds, and milk. “All the good dairy stuff,” noted Bridget Hoffman.
Music during breakfast was provided by the Farm Fab Five who had attendees dancing to their favorite tunes.
The perfect after breakfast dessert were the milkshakes from the American Dairy Association milkshake wagon. Caledonia Haulers sponsored ice cream for the event. Princess Kay of the Milky Way, Rachel Visser, along with the Olmsted County Dairy Princesses were there to represent the dairy industry and answer any questions that visitors had.
Another educational opportunity was to stop by the Northern Valley Livestock Services table, where experts explained what veterinarians do on a dairy farm. They also handed out palpation glove balloons for the kids, which provided a lot of fun.
Farm Bureau Financial Services provided a scavenger hunt game that took players around the farm finding things on the list. Once they completed the scavenger hunt, they were able to sign up to win prizes.
Other organizations with displays included Ag Partners Livestock Nutrition, Select Sires, Inc., Nutrien Ag Solutions and ABC Drones, LLC.
Many wonderful businesses provided tractors for the Olmsted County Breakfast on the Farm including Marzolf Implement Co., Hammell Equipment, Kronebush Waste Haulers and New Holland.
It requires a large number of volunteers to make an occasion this large run so smoothly. Thank you to all the volunteers who offered their time to help with this event, as there are just too many to mention individually. Another big thank you goes out to the numerous sponsors of the event.
There is an Olmsted County Breakfast on the Farm Committee that does much of the planning for the event. “They are all people that are involved in ag in some way, shape or form,” explained Bridget. “We provide the place,” she stated. Providing a place to entertain and feed hundreds of people is no easy task.
The entire Hoffman family worked hard in preparation for the Olmsted County Breakfast on the Farm, and it is apparent that they take a lot of pride in their farm operation. The kids are very involved in the farm as well and look to be the fifth generation to run the farm one day.
Congratulations to the Hoffman family, everyone associated with North Creek Dairy and all others involved in a successful, well-organized, fun, and educational Olmsted County Breakfast on the Farm 2025!
