Houston’s Zach Olson steals second base while Spring Grove second baseman Kolton Nerstad stretches for the throw with shortstop Zach Brumm backing up the action. The Lions would eventually swipe the most bases and score the most runs, winning 13-1 in the SEC Saturday matchup.

Three Rivers Conference Baseball (4/19)

St. Charles 1, Chatfield 5 (C: C. Boyum 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 K, Win, 1-4, 2 R; Westin Nolte 1-2, RBI, R; Chase Johnston 1-2, 2 RBI, R); Chatfield 5, St. Charles 6 [8] (C: C. Boyum 4-4, 2 RBI, 2 R; Jack Dornack 2-3, 2B, 2 RBI; Ryan Rindels 1-3, 2 R; Carter Schlink 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K, No Decision. The Gophers led 5-0 after their sixth inning, but St. Charles scored the final six runs. They tied it 5-5 with a two-run bottom of seventh. Chatfield had runners on second and third in their eighth with two out, but failed to score. With two out in the Saints’ bottom, an error, a walk and a single by Brock Decker plated the game-winning run. Gophers > 3-2, 3-4)

Cotter 14, Fillmore Central/Lanesboro 2 [5] (FCL: Owen Schoepski 2-2, RBI; Levi Rogers 1-2. Cotter had a nine-run first); FC/L 2, Cotter 12 [6] (FCL: Joey Pederson 1-3, R; O. Schoepski 1-2, RBI. Cotter scored in all but one inning. FCL > 0-5, 0-6)

Southeast Conference Baseball (4/19 & 4/20) 

Houston 2, Southland 7 (H: Logan Olson 2-3, 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K, No Decision; Zach Olson 1-3, R; M. Rohweder 1-2, R, 4 IP, 6 H, 7 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, Loss; Grayden Beckman 1-3, RBI. Southland had a 7-run fourth, annulling a 2-0 ‘Cane lead) 

Spring Grove 13, Houston 1 [5] (SG: B. Udstuen 4 2/3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 4 K, 2 BB, Win (3-0), 2-4, R; Elijah Solum 1-1, 4 R; Jaxon Strinmoen 1-4, 3 RBI, 2 R; Ezra Griffin 1-3, 3 RBI; Braedon Solie 1-3, 2 R; Zach Brumm 1-3, R; Gabe Klug 1-4, RBI, R. H: Tristan Stinson 4 IP, 7 H, 10 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 3 K, Loss; Alex Walters 1-3, R. Ben Udstuen, who was one out away from a no hitter, pitched his second one-hitter of the young season. He also picked off two runners and with the bat, was the only batter with two hits. The Lions stole 10 bases in the game. SG > 2-1, 3-1. Houston > 2-4, 3-5)

Non-Conference Baseball (4/15 – 4/18) 

Hayfield 4, Fillmore Central/Lanesboro 0 (FCL: L. Rogers 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K, No Decision. Hayfield’s Eric Bermea (7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 12 K, Win) pitched a two-hitter. A young FC/L squad has scored just two runs in their first four games) 

#1 in A Lyle/Pacelli 5, Rushford-Peterson 3 (R-P: Cayden Lea 1-3, 2B, R; Rylan Schneider 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K, No Decision; Caden Johnson 3 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, Loss. All eight runs were scored in the first two innings. R-P was out-hit eight to two, but they drew eight walks to L/P’s two) 

Mabel-Canton 1, Goodhue 4 (M-C: Cayden Tollefsrud 1-3, R, 5 2/3 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 9 K, Loss. Wildcat starter Caleb Kurtti went the distance, pitching a two-hitter (7 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 13 K, Win). It was M-C’s season opener) 

Blooming Prairie 10, GMLOK 2 (GMLOK: Caden Reiter 6 IP, 5 R, 3 ER, 5 K, Loss; Courtland Drury-DeBoer 1-3, 2B, RBI. BP had a five-run seventh to expand a 5-2 lead) 

Medford 2, Houston 7 (H: N. Nelson 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 11 K, Win; M. Rohweder 2-4, 3 RBI, 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K; Zach Olson 2-3, RBI, 3 R; A. Walters 2-4, RBI, 2 R; T. Stinson 1-4, 2B, RBI; Carter Geiwitz 1-3, 2 R) 

Chatfield 6, Randolph 8 (C: Nathan Allen 2-3, 2 RBI, R; J. Dornack 2-2, 2B, RBI; C Johnston 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, No Decision, 0-3, RBI, R; Brayden Horsman 1-1, R. Chatfield had five-run first (5-0), but gave up a six-run fourth to trail 8-5. Randolph had a two-out, three-run triple to conclude scoring in the inning. All three runs to score on the hit reached via walk or hit batter. Rocket starter Kyle Peine struggled with control (3 IP, 2 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 7 BB, 3 K) but main reliever Noah Girgen (3 2/3 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, Win) did not while also leading the Rockets at the plate (3-3, 2B, HR, RBI, 3 R). Trailing 8-6, the Gophers left runners on first and second in both the sixth and seventh innings) 

GMLOK 4, Dover-Eyota 10 (GMLOK: C. Drury-DeBoer 1-3, RBI, R; Parker Johnson 1-3, R, 4 1/3 IP, 5 R, 2 ER, 3 K, Loss; C. Reiter 1-3, R. For a second straight game, GMLOK relief pitching struggled throwing strikes, as they gave up five runs)
