Warriors Post Second Straight 4-1 Week

For a second straight week, Caledonia baseball won four of five games.  Their 12-3 record over the final 15 games has them a top four post-season seed.  Shawn Bauer’s group first avenged a loss to Lewiston-Altura.  The Warriors scored four in the bottom of the first and then never looked back in a 9-1 win.  Reid Klug gave up just one earned run in recording the win (7 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 4 K, 1-3, RBI, R).  Lead-off man Jack Schmitz scored four times (2-3, 2B).  Garrett Konz (2-3, 2 RBI, 2 R), Tanner Ginther (1-3, 2 RBI, R), and Tyson Ginther (1-2, RBI) helped.  L-A took the first meeting 7-6 in eight innings. The Warriors then jumped on division rival La Crescent/Hokah 7-0 after half an inning and later led 12-3, recording the win 13-6. The Lancers (13-2, 17-3) won the TRC-East, are 1AA’s second-seed.  Caledonia rapped out 16 hits.  Tyson G. (3-5, 2B, 2 R) drove in four runs.  Tanner G. (1-4, 2B) drove in and scored two each.  Klug (3-3, 2 R), Schmitz (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI), Ben Stemper (2-5, 2 R) and Will Allen (1-4, RBI) also contributed.  Landon O’Heron (5 2/3 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 2-3, R) collected the win with Konz (1 1/3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K) doing relief work.  The Warriors then used a five-run fifth to get ahead Zumbrota-Mazeppa 7-1.  Caledonia prevailed 8-4.  The teams combined for 23 hits, Z-M 10, Caledonia 13.  They combined to leave 19 on base, Coug’s 11, Cal 8.  Schmitz had a couple hits (2-4), a couple RBI, and collected the win (4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K). Allen also had a couple hits (2-3, 2B, 2 RBI, R) plus pulled relief work (3 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K).  Tanner G. (2-4, 2 R), Tyson G. (2-4, RBI, R), and Konz (2-4) also had two hits.  O’Heron (1-3, 2 R) and Mason King (1-2, R) also scored.  Hosting Rushford-Peterson, the Trojans closed to down 5-3 with a three-run fifth, only for the Warriors to score seven in the bottom of the sixth to end it early, 13-3.  Ty. Ginther (6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 8 K) collected the win and drove in four runs (3-4, R).  Stemper (3-4, 2B, RBI, 3 R) also had three hits.  Klug (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, R) and Allen (2-4, RBI, R) each had two.   Konz (1-2, 3 R), King (1-3, RBI, R), Tan. Ginther (1-4, 2 RBI, R), and Schmitz (1-4, RBI, R) made it a team effort.  Zach Baker (1-3) drove in two for R-P. Caledonia (14-5) ended the week against Pine Island (13-5).  An infield single, a stolen base, and Panther Luke Sems’ double plated the only run of the game in fourth.  The Warriors briefly loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but a base-running miscue resulted in out number three being recorded at home plate.  Pine Island won 1-0.  Konz (7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 11 K) and Sems (7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K, Win, 1-3, 2B, RBI) each pitched gems.  Tanner G. (1-3) had a double for Caledonia.  The TRC-East second place Warriors (12-3, 14-6) are 1AA’s 4-seed, will host 13-seed Lake City (5-14).
