Our beloved Arlene, age 85, of Rosemount, Minn., passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Catherine (nee Ryan) Hill, and one brother, Allan Hill.
Arlene was a life-long caregiver, serving as a Registered Nurse for 40 years, a wife and mother to four and a grandmother to eight.
Born and raised in Harmony, Minn., she went to Mason City, Iowa, to pursue her passion of serving others through nursing. She met her future husband at a dance and married soon after. Chicago was their first married home, followed by relocation to the Twin Cities.
Together, Arlene and her husband raised four children in Apple Valley. A back injury cut short her nursing career, but not her passion for friends and family. She enjoyed sewing, cross stitch and gardening, but most of all being part of her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. Her youngest daughter moved to Italy, but that didn’t stop Arlene, as she made several trips to visit her family.
Arlene is survived by her husband of 61 years, James Luzum; sons Michael (Barbara) Luzum and Steven Luzum, daughters Julie (James) Toombs and Kerrie (Beppe) De Leo, grandchildren Katie (Derek) Christiansen, Elizabeth Luzum, James D. Luzum, Annemarie Luzum, Thomas Luzum, Lorenzo De Leo, Olivia De Leo and Gemma De Leo; sisters LaRita (James) Langen, Dorothy Elpert, Mary Nyberg; brothers Edward Hill and Charles (Bonnie) Hill, and numerous other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 24 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 13900 Biscayne Ave West, Rosemount, with an informal gathering one hour before. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society are preferred.
