American Spirit

This 250th Anniversary of the founding of our country is a day – a year actually – to marvel at the continued existence of this nation of which we are a part. For most of us, our descendants came here, with hope in their hearts, after this country was in full swing. So, I am here due to ‘accident of birth’, not choice. Many of our fellow American citizens are more recent arrivals, people who came at great emotional and monetary expense, wanting to raise their children in this land of hope and opportunity. A homogeneous country we are not!
Our collective future, the future of America, is buoyed by the hopes and dreams that are in our hearts. The past is memory, and thousands of history books. The present is us, and our appreciation and engagement with all that is great about America. We can all vote, public schools are free for all, the parks are wonderful, the laws are clear, corruption does not exist except at the upper levels, and we can attempt to gain employment in any field.
Let us now recognize and appreciate the efforts and accomplishments of the past 250 years.
As we celebrate the past with this 250th Anniversary, listen – it’s the sound of the hopes and desires of 340 million Americans carrying us into our future.
