Spring Grove clinched a share of its first conference volleyball title in 42 years with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-20) win over Southland. This co-championship of the SEC East is the Lions’ first since the 1984 co-championship of the River Valley Conference. SG did not trail during the first two sets, but there were three lead changes during the final frame. The Lions rallied from a 10-7 deficit with a 12-to-2 run. Then the Rebels rallied from a 21-14 deficit to get back within two at 21-19 before Spring Grove closed it out with three kills and an ace serve. The Lions attacked with 16% efficiency, the Rebels at 0%. Brinley Middendorf led scoring with 10 kills, an ace block and 2 ace serves. Kallyn Morken had another 10 kills and an ace serve. Addison Rask added 7 kills and Lauren Hammel 4. Izabel Kaufmann served 10 for 10 with 2 aces plus a team-high 10 digs. Jada Strinmoen served 13 for 14 with a team-most 3 aces along with 3 kills and 8 digs. Claire Sherburne served 13 for 14 with 2 aces plus 30 set assists. The Lions (13-1 SEC, 18-9 overall) share the East with M-C (13-1, 22-8-1). SG is Section 1A’s 3-seed, hosts 14-seed Hayfield (9-18).
