In the best South-East game of the year, Kingsland (4-3) got a TD run as time expired to post a crazy win at #10 in 9-Man Lanesboro (6-1). The contest started with the Knights jumping out to a 30-8 first quarter lead. Kingsland senior Bently Wiersma had a hell of a quarter, returning a 79-yard kick-off for a score, throwing a 75-yard TD pass to Tate Rasmussen, returning a punt 50-yards for a score, plus recovering a fumble. The Knights also got a 34-yard Collin Stuart to Max Snitker TD pass with 2:30 left in the first to lead 30-8. But Lanesboro then scored 40 of the next 46 points! Included were 65-yard and 69-yard TD runs by Preston Clarke. Teague Tessum hit Quadyn Kettner on a 55-yard TD pass, Clarke on a 14-yard TD pass. Kettner scored on runs of 15 and 12 yards. Clarke’s second big TD run, with Tessum conversion run, made it 48-36 Burros with 8:29 left in the fourth. It capped a 95-yard scoring drive that was set up when the Burro defense held despite Kingsland having a 1st and goal at the one. But down 12, the Knights rallied to the close. They answered quickly via a Rasmussen to Wiersma 73-yard TD on a reverse pass, the seventh scoring play of 50-plus yards. Lanesboro led 48-44. The Knights then got a defensive stop, helped greatly by a Burro false start penalty that turned a third and three into a third and eight. As time ticked down, the Knights slowly marched. Ten straight run plays had Kingsland facing a 4th and goal on the one with 0:06 left. Stuart then ran right and just got into the end zone for the rare walk-off football win. Kingsland prevailed 50-48! Wiersma posted the rare game of accruing 50-plus yards in five different aspects (24-113 rushing; 2-76, TD receiving; 75-yard TD pass; 79-yard KOR TD; 50-yard punt return TD). He thus totaled 393 all-purpose yards! Rasmussen (73-yard TD pass; 75-yard TD catch; conversion run), Snitker (2-42, 2 TDs receiving), Stuart (4-11, 55 yards, 2 TDs, INT passing, TD rushing), and KD Reiland (three conversions rushing) also scored for the Knights. Normal reserve back Clarke (10-167, 2 TDs rushing; 14-yard TD reception), Henry Semmen (22-147, TD rushing) and Kettner (3-32, 2 TDs, conversion rushing, 55-yard TD reception) led the Burros. Tessum (4 of 9, 108 yards, 2 TDs passing; 10-35, conversion rushing) did not attempt a second half pass. Lanesboro lost three first half fumbles. The Burros (6-2, 6-2) still secured the Section 1 9-Man #1 seed and will host 8-seed Wabasha-Kellogg (0-8). The Knights (5-3, 5-3) got the 5-seed and will play at 4-seed Grand Meadow (5-3, 5-3).
