Larry V. Laugen was born to Edwin C. and Clara J. Laugen (Foss) on September 4, 1935, in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He grew up in Harmony, Minnesota, and graduated from Harmony High School in 1953. After a semester at Luther College, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He spent two of his three years in the army, serving in Germany. After release from active duty, he returned to Luther College. He transferred to Winona State University and graduated from there in 1960. In 1958, he met the love of his life, Eloise Jetson, at the Avalon Ballroom in La Crosse. They would continue their love of dancing to big band music for their whole life. Eloise and Larry were married in Spring Grove, Minnesota, on January 3, 1959.
On January 5, 1960, a son, Steve, was born. After graduation from Winona State in the summer of 1960, Larry worked for Federated Insurance as a claims adjuster and underwriter. During that time, a daughter, Julie, was born on December 31, 1961. In 1964, Larry was hired by IBM Rochester. Over the next 29 years with IBM, he worked on different projects in Rochester, Minnesota (1964-70, 1975-78); Boulder, Colorado (1970-72, 1978-93); Fort Worth, Texas; and Gaithersburg, Maryland. After retirement from IBM, Larry and Eloise moved to Loveland, Colorado. They were busy volunteering as Stephen Ministers for their church, and for the sculpture shows in Loveland.
In addition, Larry enjoyed playing golf, flying and spending winters on South Padre Island, Texas. It has been a good and interesting life, enriched by the love of Eloise, Steve (Jeanette), Julie, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Edwin and Clara Laugen, and son-in-law Steve Green.
He is survived by his wife Eloise, son Steve (Jeanette), daughter Julie, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A private family service at the Veteran’s cemetery in Preston, Minnesota will be determined at a later date.
