FFA Officers Korra Biel and Weston Bernau, and FFA Advisor Kelsey Biel updated the Fillmore Central School Board on the FFA activities at the September 22 school board meeting. The team has over 80 members this year. In FFA, there are a lot of opportunities for students to travel and test with a Supervised Agricultural Experience, or SAE. A networking dinner will be held in February 2027 which will give students a chance to set up summer internships or find future employment.

Superintendent Heath Olstad reported that out of 277 elementary students, 276 completed the elementary conferences over the first two days of school. He said it was impressive to have such a high level of attendance. He noted that the back-to-school conferences are appreciated by school staff and well-received by families. Some of the reading assessments were changed this year due to the MDE Read Act guidelines so comparison data won’t be available until next fall when the assessments are repeated. At the elementary school, the classes have already practiced bus and school evacuation drills.
Homecoming week was very rainy, and the homecoming pepfest, parade, and football game were moved from Friday, September 18 to Thursday, September 17 due to the impending weather. Literacy Under the Lights was rescheduled to from September 21 to September 28 because of the rain as well. The cheerleaders hosted the homecoming dance for grades 7-12.
The 3/4 preschool classes have a total of 20 students and 4/5 a total of 33. One Block at a Time was voted Best of the Best in daycares from the Fillmore County Journal. Forty-five children were screened at the Early Childhood Screening in August.
Ruth Mikos was hired as the photography club advisor, Kylie Fenton Musel as a lead teacher in One Block at a Time, and Ryder Witte as a substitute custodian.
The annual foster care transportation agreement with Fillmore County was approved.
The 2027 levy was approved at the maximum amount. Superintendent Olstad noted that the final figures can be lowered before the truth-in-taxation meeting in December, but they cannot increase.
Several open enrollment requests were approved.
The October meeting is scheduled for October 27, which may be a section football playoff game. There could be a section volleyball game the Monday before the meeting as well so the board decided to move the meeting time to 7 a.m. on October 27 to avoid any conflicts. The annual truth-in-taxation meeting was set for Wednesday, December 16 at 6:01 p.m. with the regular board meeting to follow.
