Mary Adler, 88, died on Sunday, September 6, 2026, in Ostrander, Minnesota.

Mary Virginia (Johnston) “Ginny” Adler was born on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1938, in Paxton, Illinois, to Frank and Edna Mae (Carroll) Johnston. Living first in Sibley, Illinois, their family later moved to Lowell, Indiana. She graduated in 1956. She spent her summers at Camp Lake Region Christian Assembly (LRCA) in Cedar Lake, Indiana, making many lifelong friends and met her first husband, Fred Foss, there. Three children were born to this union; Lois (Mark) Henselin, Daniel (Nancy) Foss, and Lydia (Jerry) Grove.

Ginny attended Indiana State College, Indiana University Northwest, as well as Purdue University, graduating with her Master’s Degree the same year Lois graduated from high school. Ginny then worked as a teacher for many years.

She loved to garden and paint. Ginny also was a history buff, and hauled her kids to historical sights and museums. Mary later moved to Minnesota to be closer to several of her grandchildren – Patrick Foss, Erick Foss, Sean (Mollie) Foss, Lauren (Kyle) Schultz, Vanessa (Brandyn) Mielke, and Anna (Raymond) Tedesco, as well as their children.

Ginny was preceded in death by her beloved husband Edward Genter, as well as her husband Ed Adler and her parents.

She is survived by her children, four stepchildren, her sisters June Carroll and Marjorie Williams, her brothers Ed Johnston, Thomas (Elaine) Johnston, and Dave Johnston; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Ginny loved her many aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws.

Services will be held at 5 p.m., on Friday, September 11, 2026, at the Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley, Minnesota, with a visitation from 4-5 p.m. A private family inurnment will be held in Illinois at a later date.
