Larry E. Hindt, 72, passed away at home on August 23, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Larry was born on September 8, 1953, in Sibley, Iowa, to Edward and Marge Hindt. He grew up in LeRoy and graduated from LeRoy High School before attending the University of Minnesota, where he pursued his education as a radiologic technologist.
Larry and his wife Joy shared 54 years of marriage, building a life centered around family, community, and the many traditions that became uniquely theirs.
Larry spent his career as a radiologic technologist, working at VA Hospital before continuing his career at Community Memorial Hospital and later Olmsted Medical Center. He retired from OMC in November 2021 after many years of caring for and serving others through his work.
His commitment to his community extended well beyond his career. Larry served as a county commissioner from 2019 until his passing, giving his time to the community he called home.
Anyone who knew Larry knew he was quick-witted, funny, and a natural storyteller. He had a joke or story for nearly every occasion and an impressive supply of what his family lovingly referred to as “useless knowledge.” He was generous, kind, caring, and always willing to lend a hand. When words weren’t necessary, Larry had a remarkable ability to let you know exactly what he was thinking with nothing more than a look.
Larry enjoyed staying busy, whether that meant snow removal, taking care of lawns, perfecting his homemade BBQ sauce, smoking meats, or bringing everyone together for Sunday brunch. More than the hobbies themselves, Larry enjoyed the people around him. Family, good food, laughter, storytelling, and taking care of others were woven throughout his life.
Larry is survived by his wife Joy Hindt, his children: Chad (Andrea), Holly (Dan), Crystal (John), and Charity (Tim); his grandchildren: Kenzie, Ashley (Dusty), Eaen (Sammy), Karson (Jackson), Madalen (Marcus), BriAnna, Brianna (Hunter), Olivia, Chantle, Kaaleem, Macie, Emme, KD, and Tate; his great-grandchildren: Everly, Adaline, Olive, Briggs, Mea, and Devyn; and his beloved dog, Ruby. Larry is also survived by his siblings: Marilyn, Tom (Judy), Donna (Neil), Sheryl (Leonard), Peggy (Dennis), Paul (Kristin), Carol (John) and Jim (Christine).
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Marge Hindt, his brother-in-law Kent Durenberger, and his beloved dog, Gracie.
Celebration of life: Family and friends are invited to gather in Spring Valley, at Bluff Brothers Brewery, on Friday, August 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to share memories, tell stories, and raise a glass in Larry’s honor.
Larry leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and memories that his family will carry with them always.
