At the July 28 Fillmore Central School Board meeting, Superintendent Heath Olstad updated the board on the summer programs. Summer Rec and Strength and Agility are both wrapping up. Kudos were extended to Coach Andrew Pederson for organizing Strength and Agility and to all the coaches who volunteered during the two months that the program was running. Fall sports information has been handed out to interested students, and football practice will start on August 10. Notice was recently received that the Blooming Prairie and Hayfield football programs are combining so the game schedule had to be adjusted. A game with Medford was added on August 28, and the team will also have a bye week during the season. This year, a new platform called Bound will be used for the sports calendars, registration, and ticketing.
Angi Kaase is working to add a sixth room to the daycare. SAC and One Block at a Time have enjoyed several in-house field trips this summer.
Stephanie Strahl and Samantha Russell were hired as support staff, Daniel Cioranu as a custodian, and Dominica Weldon as a teacher in One Block at a Time. A resignation from Samantha Russell as One Block at a Time staff was accepted. Jen Lindstrom, Samantha Russell, and Kaelyn Peters were hired as staff for the early childhood special ed summer school program.
The first reading of the board policies was completed. The Minnesota State Board Association, or MSBA, recently completed an audit of the policies making only minor changes based on new legislative requirements.
The 2026-2027 handbooks for K-6, 7-12, faculty, paraprofessionals, mentoring coaches, and the restrictive procedures plan were reviewed for the second reading. An addition was made to the faculty and paraprofessional handbooks to include information about a Minnesota statute which states that employees can disclose their wages without their employer retaliating in any way.
The adult meal prices were set at $4 for breakfast and $6 for lunch. The healthy snack prices were increased about $5 from last year and will be $42.50 per semester and $85 for the year. The milk break fees were approved at the same rate as last year with $43.75 per semester for grades 1-6 and $15 per semester for kindergarten.
A bid from Nickelson Painting to paint the elementary stage gym was approved. The company won’t be able to do the project until the winter months as they are working to complete outdoor contracts while the weather still allows it. They are planning to do the painting between sports seasons.
Bids from Ridgeview Lumber and Yoder Construction for materials and labor for a playground shelter were approved.
A transaction fee for people making online payments on Bound was approved at 30 cents per transaction plus 3.9% of the total.
A three-year athletic trainer services agreement with Mayo Clinic was approved as was the district’s long-term facilities maintenance plan.
The computer usage fees were set for the upcoming school year at $45 annually for students in grade 9-12 and $25 annually for students in grades 7-8. There will be no charge for elementary students, and the fee will be waived for families that qualify for free/reduced lunches.
The quarterly donations in the amount of $26,156.20 were accepted with gratitude.
Superintendent Olstad and board member Jennifer Pickett will be meeting with Preston interim city administrator Michelle Marotzke in regards to potentially using the northeast corner of the land at the elementary school as a location for the Preston Pool.
