America the Beautiful Shines On

During America’s 250th Anniversary, pause to reflect on how the “Great Experiment” has evolved.
The Founding Fathers envisioned a new country with liberty and self-governance separate from the monarchy of Great Britain, high taxation and forced religion. Patrick Henry famously declared, “I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!”
That sentiment still rings true today as freedom is the bedrock of our American collective – our God-given rights of “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” as defined in the Declaration of Independence.
We maintain our cherished freedom of religion. Last month, President Trump, faith leaders and officials rededicated America as “One Nation under God.” These United States have proven to be “indivisible” thus far because God has truly watched over, blessed and protected our nation.
The system of checks and balances outlined long ago have been tested and still stand. The executive, judicial and legislative branches are in effect, albeit imperfectly. We have a president, not a king. The United States has not caved to socialism, Marxism or communism, but we must remain vigilant for those threats to our sovereignty. Seeing the restoration and beautification of statues and memorials in Washington, D.C. in preparation for America’s Semiquincentennial is renewing our nation’s gravitas. In addition, local communities are adding red, white and blue patriotic flair.
And yes, Old Glory, that starspangled banner, still proudly waves “o’er the land of the free” because of the brave.
