Allan Mandela obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Allan Eugene Mandelko, 90, passed away Monday, May 25, 2026, surrounded by his family. 

Allan was born September 22, 1935, to parents Carl and Vilda (Krueger) Mandelko in Cresco, Iowa.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Granger, Minn. He married Virginia Marie Freiheit August 19, 1960, at Dr. Martin Luther Church of Spring Valley. Allan and Virginia lived a 64-year marriage.

Allan attended school in Preston and graduated from Preston High School in 1953. He was active in sports. After graduation, he entered the army and served with the 101st Airborne Division for two years. Allan and Virginia started farming in Bristol Township with Allan’s parents and eventually took over when his parents retired.  

Through the years Allan was an active church member at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church.  He served on the church council and the cemetery board. He was a member of the Fillmore County Pork Producers and was a Pioneer Seed Corn salesman.

Allan was a devoted husband and father.  He is survived by his daughter Marcia (Joseph) Jaeb, two sons, Dale (Lori) Mandelko and Scott (Donna) Mandelko; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. 

He is preceded in death by his wife Virginia (Freiheit) Mandelko, parents Carl and Vilda (Krueger) Mandelko, two brothers, Charles Mandelko and Delbert Mandelko; sister Delone Langum, brother-in-law Rodney Langum, and sister-in-law Donna (Hahn) Mandelko.

The family would like to thank Harmony Place for the excellent care for Allan and a thank you to the many friends and relatives who called, sent cards, and visited him.

A celebration of Allan’s life will take place on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 5-7 p.m. at Schmelzer (formerly known as Lindstrom) Funeral Home in Harmony, Minn.  Memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 11 a.m. at St Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Granger, Minn. Interment to follow at St Matthew’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Matthew’s Cemetery or to your choice.
