Colletta Tripp obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Colletta Ann Tripp, age 82, of Rushford, Minn., died May 4, 2026, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home following a battle with lung cancer. She was born June 8, 1943, in Sioux Falls, S. Dak., to Virgil and Irene (O’Dea) Kelley, who made their home in Humboldt, S. Dak. Colletta grew up in Humboldt, where she built the roots of a life centered on faith, family, and friendships that lasted. She graduated from St. Anne’s Grade School in 1957, attended high school in Ruthton, and graduated in 1961. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics Education from South Dakota State University in 1967.

Colletta found joy in simple blessings – good friends, God’s splendid natural views, and, most of all, her children. She worked hard throughout her life and wore many hats, including cashier, schoolteacher, and factory assembly worker at Rush Products, where she worked for 20 years. In 1979, she moved to Money Creek with her family to be closer to her mother and aunts. In the years that followed, she lovingly supported them as they aged, all while raising her family and keeping a steady, caring presence in the lives of those who depended on her.

Colletta gave her time generously – volunteering at school and community events and showing up, again and again, for the people she loved. She especially loved cheering on her children as they played sports for the Houston and Rushford teams through many successful seasons. She often said her best job was being a parent, and anyone who knew her could see how much heart she poured into caring for and teaching children of all ages. She treasured time with her children and grandchildren. Colletta also enjoyed the beach, reading, gardening, and restoring treasures found at garage sales. Above all, she valued visits and conversations with family and friends.

Colletta was welcomed into heaven by her parents; her husband James Tripp Sr., her sisters Colleen Kelley and Denise Hanson, and her daughter Julie (Tripp) Barr.

She will be lovingly remembered by her brothers Patrick Kelley (Colleen) and Michael Kelley, her sisters Bonnie (Daniel) Watts, Mary Zimmerman, and Donna (Tim) Stoderl; and many nieces and nephews.

Her children – who were a blessing throughout her life – include Michael (Jennifer) Tripp, Mark (Angie) Tripp, Todd (Cheri) Tripp, Matt (Diane) Tripp, Sandi (Kevin) Brown, and Jim (Marge) Tripp. She also enjoyed spending time with her 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her pride and joy.

A celebration of life will be held on May 16 from 2-4 p.m. at the Houston Community Center.
