Ione Thorson obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Ione P. Thorson, 90, of Chatfield, died Friday, April 24, 2026 at the Chosen Valley Care Center. 

Ione “Onie” was born August 23, 1935, in Ossian, Iowa to Hiller and Elsie (Wiedow) Holien.  On November 10, 1958, she married Carl Thorson.  They settled in Chatfield where they raised their family.  She worked as an Avon representative for 40 years, at Mayo Clinic for 27 years and at Hardware Hank for several years. 

Ione was a member of Chatfield Lutheran Church.  She enjoyed being outdoors, horses, auctions and especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

She is survived by her children, Rick (Katie) Thorson, Shelley (Dean) Hilsman, Lori (Rick) Walters, and Thor (Cathy) Thorson; grandchildren Adam (Sarah) Thorson, Travis (Lindsay) Thorson, Graham Thorson, Carol Thorson, Rebecca (Cory) Dempster, Wesley (Claire) Mross, Jordan (Emily) Walters, Amanda Hilsman and Michelle (Jonathan) Rhode; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Ladenberg and Marlyn Hanson; brother Robert Holien, many nieces and nephews as well as many special friends whom Ione considered family. 

She was preceded in death by her husbands Richard Musel and Carl Thorson, grandson Jeremy Walters, sisters Vivian Ramlo and Joanne Hanson, and a brother, Hiller Holien. 

Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Friday, May 1, 2026, at Chatfield Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 10 a.m., until the time of the service.  She will be laid to rest at Chatfield Cemetery.
