While we cannot conquer the passing of a loved one, we can always keep them alive in our hearts and memories. They are never truly gone as long as we remember and share memories.
Karmen was born December 28, 1964, and passed away on April 16, 2026, at the age of 61.
Karmen was the kindest and most caring person with massive determination. While her life was overwhelming at times, she always pushed through all the pain with perseverance, no matter what lay in her path. Wherever she went, she made friends. She just had that kind of personality.
Paul, her husband, was devoted and caring and was near her side the entire time. Karmen also was cared for by her brother.
Karmen had many enjoyments in life. She enjoyed herbology, cooking, baking, and geology, and was very wise. She enjoyed mentoring others and passing her knowledge onward. She was very creative and an excellent singer. Early in her marriage with Paul, they would often go sing at karaoke. Listening to her sing was like hearing the same artist perform. She sang effortlessly and enjoyed the joy it brought her and others.
Karmen really enjoyed playing games with her family and friends, both board games and video games. She enjoyed the ones where she could use her imagination, particularly magical quests filled with fairies, butterflies, and mystery around every corner. She would write detailed notes to remember the storylines.
One of Karmen’s greatest achievements was the launch of her business, Fae-Essence, which she put a lot of time and effort into. It had a stand in the Ballard house in Spring Grove, Minn., and at Steam Engine Days in Mabel.
She also homeschooled her son for fourth and fifth grade.
Karmen married Paul on November 4, 1995. She is survived by Paul, son Erik, daughter-in-law Emalie, mother Vicki, brother Jason, mother-in-law Susan, and sister-in-law Angela (and Gary); many nieces and nephews, and her extended family, Joe, Maddie, and Ellie.
She was preceded in death by her son Christopher, two brothers Wesley and Kevin, and her father Michael.
Celebration of life party is on April 25, from noon to 5 at the Mabel American Legion, 114 N. Main St., Mabel, MN 55954.
The family wishes to send thanks to the staff at Mabel EMT service, McCormick Funeral Home, and special thanks to Tim Mengis for their assistance and care and compassion during this difficult time.
