Mike Ptacek obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Michael Steven Ptacek, 69, of Longville, Minn., (formerly of Grand Meadow, Minn.), passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, after a long battle with cancer. He spent his last days surrounded by family and loved ones.

He was born on July 22, 1956, in Preston, Minn., to Mildred (McConnell) and Joseph Ptacek of Spring Valley, Minn. Mike attended Spring Valley High School and vocational school for Ag Mechanics. He married the love of his life, Rhonda Simonson of Grand Meadow, in 1975. Together they raised their five children in Grand Meadow.

Mike worked for Gehling Implement in Preston, Minn. He spent many years as a mechanic and salesman for Isenberg John Deere Implement in Spring Valley, Minn., and later as a maintenance technician and shipping coordinator for Hayfield Window and Door. Upon retirement, Mike and Rhonda moved to Longville, Minn., to live their dream of being on a lake. They celebrated their 50th anniversary this past September.

Mike was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a devoted Christian and very active in his church. He was incredibly handy and loved fixing just about everything. He enjoyed watching birds, spending time outdoors, and was an avid fisherman.

He is survived by his wife Rhonda, his mother Mildred Ptacek, his children: Michael Ptacek Jr., Amanda Stier, Brittany (Troy) Ptacek, Chelsey Ptacek, and Cassidy (Luke) Probasco; and his grandchildren: Aaliyah (Michael), Caiden, Easton, and Lila (Amanda), Stella (Chelsey), and Grant and Mila (Cassidy). He is also survived by his siblings Kathy Ruesink, Greg Ptacek, Tony (Marcia) Ptacek, Debbie (Jon) Dahl, Rick (Kim) Ptacek, Kirk (Marty) Ptacek, Theresa (Bruce) Turner, Tom Ptacek, Darla (Jeff) Bernard, and Jeff Ptacek; and his sisters-in-law Lanna (Ron) Gehling, Jeanie (Denny) King, and Julie (Marty) Stier. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his infant son Grant, his father- and mother-in-law Everett and Violet Simonson, his father Joseph Ptacek, his brother Gary Ptacek, and his brothers-in-law Fred Ruesink and Donnie Simonson.

Services will be at 11 a.m., on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Bear Creek Lutheran Church in Grand Meadow, Minn. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Bear Creek Lutheran Church, and will continue for one hour prior to the start of the service on Friday.
