Wayne “Big Wayne”  Boehmke

April 6, 2026 by Fillmore County Journal Leave a Comment

Wayne Boehmke obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Wayne “Big Wayne” Boehmke passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on April 1, 2026, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital.

Wayne was born on December 25, 1958, to Eldon “Pete” Boehmke and Judith Boehmke (Olson) in Winona, Minn. He was united in marriage to Wanda Ruedy on June 7, 1980. Wayne was a lifelong farmer and an avid animal lover, a passion he passed on to all of his children.

Over the years, many dogs stood faithfully by his side, including his current sidekick Beau, who, despite Wayne’s best efforts, preferred to follow his own direction and live life on his own terms, much like Wayne himself. Wayne was incredibly mechanically inclined and could rebuild engines, weld, and repair just about any piece of farm equipment. He took great pride in those skills and in passing that knowledge on to his sons. His favorite time of year was spring planting, and he was known for never allowing anyone else to touch the planters. He also enjoyed a good auction, a flavored soda like Spring Grove pop, classic Westerns, and old-fashioned country music from a time when, as he would say, “music was good.” Wayne was also a talented guitar player and often spent time playing with his brother Butch, something he truly enjoyed.

Wayne is survived by his wife Wanda, his children Jessica (Brandon) Allen, Richard Boehmke, Tyler Boehmke, Heath Boehmke and Melissa Boehmke; his granddaughter Eleanor Hammann, his brother Eldon “Butch” Boehmke, his sister-in-law Sylvia Burton, and his mother-in-law Elizabeth Ruedy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, and his father-in-law and brother-in-law.

Per Wayne’s and the family’s wishes, a private family service will be held, with a celebration of life planned at a later date.

Wayne will be remembered for his strong will, deep love for his family, and a life rooted in hard work, independence, and doing things his own way.

Hoff Celebration of Life Center – Winona is assisting the family. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.hofffuneral.com.
