Southland (18-0, 29-3) ran roughshod over the Southeast Conference, going unblemished in league play on the way to winning the SEC-West over Grand Meadow (12-6, 18-10), Lyle/Pacelli (9-9, 11-16), LeRoy-Ostrander (3-15, 6-22), and Kingsland (1-17, 1-26). In the SEC-East, Lanesboro (14-4, 21-7) won its first division crown in over a decade over Mabel-Canton (12-6, 19-9), Spring Grove (10-8, 10-17), Schaeffer Academy (8-10, 10-17), and Houston (3-15, 4-23). The SEC 1st team list has players from seven different teams while the 2nd team has players from six. For SEC-East champion Lanesboro, Nick Taylor (6’7” Jr. F) is 1st team All-SEC while Conor Danielson (5’8” Jr. G) in 2nd All-SEC. Taylor had a massive year for the Burros, averaging a team best 21.9 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.9 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game. He led his team in all four categories. Taylor shot 49% from the field and easily led the SEC in dunks. He scored in double figures in every game and was consistent, tallying between 18 and 28 points in 20 of the games. Taylor was 2nd team All-SEC last year. Danielson graces an All-SEC list for a first time. The guard was second on the Burros in points with 9.5 per game, assists with 3.2 per, and steals with 2.5 per while adding 2.6 rebounds. Danielson also hit 40 threes. Making All-SEC HM for the Burros is Boone Moen (6’0” Sr. G > 8.2 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 2.9 APG. team-best 55 threes made at a 40% clip). Said guys helped Matt Asleson’s group to its first SEC title since 2010, first 20-win in over a decade also. East second place Mabel-Canton also gets one 1st team selection and one 2nd team selection. Senior Isaac Underbakke (6’1 SG) earns 1st team All-SEC after being 2nd team last year while Nolan Garness (5’11” So. G) makes All-SEC 2nd team. Underbakke was again M-C’s most versatile player, leading the team in scoring at 16.7 points per game, rebounding at 7.8 per, assists at 5.9 per, and steals at 2.8 per. He scored in double figures in every game but three, shot a teameibest 48% from the field, while notching 10 doubles and one triple double. Underbakke had nine games of double-digit rebounds, four games of double-digit assists. He finishes his career with 1,322 points, which ties Andy Dahlen for third place in M-C boys history behind Cayden Tollefsrud (2,228) and Steve Smith (1,379). He also finishes with over 500 career rebounds and career assists. Garness was M-C’s designated shooter, as he averaged a team second-best 11.2 points per with 3.6 rebounds and a team second-best 2.4 steals. Garness hit a team-best 77 of 208 threes (37% clip), setting the M-C single-season record in made trifectas. Making All-SEC HM for the Cougars is Kale Eiken (5’10” Jr. G > 11.1 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 2.3 APG). Said group helped the Cougars to their best season since the 1970s and first trip to Rochester since 2014. Making All-SEC 1st team for Grand Meadow is Carter Glynn (6’2” Sr. G). Glynn moves up after being honorable mention the last two years. GM’s top player, Glynn led the Superlarks in scoring at 18.3 points per game and assists at 3.0 per. With 10.3 rebounds per game, he impressively averaged a double-double. Glynn scored in double figures in every game and had double digit rebounds at least 17 times. He thus had at least 17 double-doubles (GM’s stats are one game short of complete). He shot a team best 48%, converted over 100 free throws at about a 67% clip, and hit 30 plus threes at about a 35% clip. Glynn finishes with 1,256 career points, which is third in GM boys history behind Colton Landers (1,945) and Craig Tangen (1,276). Making All-SEC 2nd team is Logan Grafe (6’5” Jr. F/C). Grafe averaged a team-best 10.7 rebounds per game, a team second-best 10.9 points per game. Glynn and Grafe thus were teammates who each averaged a double-double. Grafe also shot a team-second best 48% from the field. GM’s sole All-SEC HM pick is Keaton Gehling (6’1” Sr. G > 8.1 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 2.0 SPG, team-best 54 threes made). Said guys helped the Larks go from winless a couple years ago to 18-10 and making it to Rochester and the 1A quarterfinals. East third place Spring Grove had two 2nd team selections, both seniors: Devon Williams (6’2” C) and Lyric Stadtler (5’11” G). Williams was the fifth leading rebounder in the SEC, averaging 9 caroms per conference contest. He also led SG in efficiency points and most free throws attempted and most freebies made. He was the Lions’ second leading scorer (13.6 PPG) and had the second-best field goal accuracy (46.7%) among those with 10-plus attempts. Williams scored in double figures during 14 of 17 SEC games, including four double-doubles with a career-high 18 rebounds versus Schaeffer, the fifth-best single game in the record book, and 17 boards versus M-C, the ninth-best game all-time. Stadtler, the Lion MVP, ranked second in the SEC with 6.2 assists per game and broke the Lions’ single season assist record with 160. He also led SG in scoring (14.5 PPG), free throw accuracy (67.9%) and 3-point baskets (2.7 per game). Stadtler ranked second in steals (2.7 SPG) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.49). He has double-digit points in 14 of 18 SEC games and double-digit assists twice. Receiving All-SEC HM is Weston Ingvalson (6’0” So. G > 12.2 ppg, team-highs 36.2% threes and 54.9% twos, 66.7% FT, 2.3 SPG 1.3 A/T ratio). Making All-SEC 1st Team for LeRoy-Ostrander is Reid Hungerholt (6’1” Jr. G). He averaged a team-best 22.1 points per game, plus 5.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.0 steals. Hungerholt scored 618 points this year taking 643 shots, as he was easily the Cardinals best option. He scored in double-figures in every game but three, topping 20 on 15 occasions, 30 on seven occasions. Already over 1,600 career points, Hungerholt will take aim at his brother Camden’s boys scoring record (1,957) and 2,000 career points next year. Making All-SEC HM for the Cardinals is Talan Lewison (5’10” Sr. G > 3.4 PPG, 5.9 RPG, 2.6 APG, 1.5 SPG). Neither Houston nor Kingsland had a pure All-SEC selection. Atreyu Florin (6’3” So. F/C > team-best 12.4 PPG, team-best 9.1 RPG, team-high 57% field goals) makes honorable mention for the Hurricanes. Kaaleem Reiland (5’8” Sr. G) makes All-SEC HM for the Knights. Other All-SEC 1st team picks are Southland’s Tate Goergen (6’1” Jr. G) and Henry Wiste (6’3” Jr. F), Schaeffer Academy’s Luke Frieze (5’11” Sr. G), and Lyle/Pacelli’s Hunter Wollenberg (6’3” Jr. F/C). Other 2nd team pics are Rebels Brekken Koenigs (5’7” Fr. G) and Ethan Schammel (6’5” Jr. F).
