Marcella J. Shipton

December 7, 2020 by Fillmore County Journal

Marcella Shipton obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Marcella J. Shipton, 96, of Preston, Minn., died on Friday, December 4, 2020, at her home.

Marcella Joan Vrieze was born on June 28, 1924, in Forestville Township, Fillmore County, Minn., to Wilbur and Mae (Terbeest) Vrieze. She was born and raised on the farm where her father was born and family still resides. She would tell stories of her youth on the farm where she drove the horses when her dad and neighbor hayed in the field.

On April 16, 1947, she was united in marriage to Glenn Shipton at Greenleafton Reformed Church in Greenleafton, Minn. Glenn and Marcella moved and started farming in the Greenleafton area in 1955 where she still resided. She was a lifelong member of the Greenleafton Reformed Church, enjoyed her Homemakers club, and was a member of the Cherry Grove Community Center.

Marcella loved to garden and canned famous dill pickles. She was a baker and often made as many as 40 apple pies in a season. The kids would get together in September and the family would make pies, applesauce, and apple butter. These are some of their favorite memories.

Quilting was a love of hers and she made many quilts for her children for wedding presents. Her friends from the Homemakers club joined her in making quilts and lap robes.

Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her much joy. Marcella was a strong member of the community and a wonderful neighbor. Her kindness and generosity will be missed by all.

Marcella is survived by her children Susan Shipton, Robert Shipton, Eric Shipton, and Cindy (Louie) Shipton Beck; six grandchildren: Tyler Shipton (Ame Putman), Trista (Mike) Thompson, Josh “Doc” Shipton, Jennifer (Nick) Moyer, Gracie Beck, and Greta Beck; four great-grandchildren: Logan Moyer, Zackarie Moyer, Chase Thompson, and Addison Thompson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Glenn on October 12, 2007.

Due to COVID-19, no services will be held at this time.

Online condolences may be left at Hindtfuneralhomes.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to the Greenleafton Reformed Church at 15502 Co. Hwy 9, Preston, Minn. 55965.
