Chatfield football (tied for #9 in Class AA) out-scored D-E 29-0 in the second quarter to roll to a 50-9 win. Sam Backer had four TDs (see Athlete of the Week) while Grady Schott blocked two punts, one for a TD, had an interception, and a sack. Cal/Houston/SG boys soccer (13-seed) upset Rochester-Lourdes (4-seed) in the first round of the 1A soccer play-offs by a 2-1 margin. Austin Meyer netted the winning goal in the second half. C/H/SG then fell to PI/Z-M. It was Hurricane Isaac in Houston as double-H football beat M-C 40-16. Isaac Heyer ran for 191 yards and 2 TDs while returning a fumble 49-yards for a third score. One TD run was 98 yards and he added an interception. M-C runners Cayden Tollefsrud (137 yards) and Gavin Johnson (127 yards) each went over the century mark in defeat. Six Burros accounted for TDs as Lanesboro beat Kingsland 43-6. J.T. Rein went over the century mark (104 yards) to lead the way. Alex Ronnenberg caught two TD passes and returned a kick-off 84-yards for a third score, all of R-P’s TDs, but the Trojans fell to Randolph 32-22. Ellie Buchholtz had 17 kills, Alyssa Link 30 assists, to lead Kingsland volleyball over Schaeffer. Hailey Hindt had 15 kills to lead GM over Houston. Houston volleyball and Southland went five sets, but the ‘Canes fell 3-2 (after leading 2-1).

Kingsland 6, Lanesboro 43 (L: J.T. Rein 14-107, TD rushing; Hayden Lawstuen 9-37, TD rushing; Jake Gathje 5-33, 2 TDs rushing; Seth Semmen 7-68 rushing, 3-10, 56 yards, TD, INT passing; Caden Anderson 40-yard TD reception; Mason Howard 6-yard TD run. K: James Howard 51-yard TD reception; Kaden Rath 3-19, 82 yards, TD passing. Four of six Burro TD drives started in Knights territory. Burros are 1-1. Knight are 1-1)

Chatfield 50, D-E 9 (C: S. Backer 17-224, 3 TDs rushing, 2-27, TD receiving (did not play most of second half); Reid Johnson 8-16, 93 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs passing, 7-62 yards, TD rushing; G. Schott two punt blocks (8-yard return TD), interception, sack; Ethan Ruskell safety; Ben Roline 4-63 rushing; Masyn Remme 10-yard TD reception, interception. DE: Tyler Shea 27-109 yards; Gavin Gust 72-yard KOR TD. After a 7-2 first quarter, Chatfield scored 29 unanswered in second via punt block TD, safety, rushing TD, and two passing TDs. Backer ran for three TDs (48, 41, 79 yards) on four carries in second and third quarters. Gophers had four interceptions; Remme, Schott, Carter Daniels, Drew Schindler. Both of Schott’s blocks were in second quarter. Each team had a safety)

M-C 16, Houston 40 (H: I. Heyer 14-191, 2 TDs rushing, 49-yard FR return TD, INT; Caiden Olson 6-79 rushing; Logan Rodriguez 18-52, TD rushing; Ethan Hargrove 6-43, TD rushing; Kenny Grupe 65-yard TD run. M-C: C. Tollefsrud 21-137, TD rushing; G. Johnson 27-127, TD rushing. Houston led 6-0 in second quarter when Cougars were stopped at ‘Cane 1-yardline. Heyer went 98-yards two plays later. He had plays of 98 yards (TD run), 49 yards (fumble return TD), 25 yards (kick-off return), 33 yards (run), and 30 yards (interception return). Teams combined for a whopping 103 running plays (M-C 56, H 47). Houston is 1-1. M-C is 0-2) 

Randolph 32, R-P 22 (R-P: A. Ronnenberg 3-83, 2 TDs receiving, 84-yard kickoff return TD; Malachi Bunke 14-30, 174 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs passing; Justin Ruberg 5-45 receiving; Kobe Lind 4-35 receiving; Hayden Kahoun 11-35 rushing. R: Jacob Weckup 14-24, 141 yards, 3 TDs, INT passing; Kaven Blonigen 5-63, 2 TDs receiving, 10-23, TD rushing. Ronnenberg returned opening kick-off for TD. Rockets scored 16-unanswered second quarter points for 16-6 halftime lead. The scoring drives were 32 yards and 50 yards. The lead expanded to 24-6 in a fourth where teams then alternated scores. Trojans ran for just 29 yards, Rockets 75. The teams each ran 52 plays with Randolph producing 216 yards and R-P 203. Trojans are 0-2) 

L-O 14, Southland 27 (L-O: Chase Johnson 10-29, 98 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs passing, 24-96 rushing; Isaac Collier 18-56 rushing, 3-20 receiving; Gavin Sweeney 19-yard TD reception, 32-yard pass; Tristan Lewison 30-yard TD reception; Tanner Olson 2-53 receiving. After a 7-6 start, Southland scored 12-unanswered to lead 19-6 in the third. Johnson then hit Lewiston to close the gap to 19-14. But a Nick Boe 38-yard fumble return TD late in the third quarter proved critical, giving the Rebels a 27-14 lead. Cardinals are 1-1)

FC 0, Kenyon-Wanamingo 28 (KW: Tyler Craig 19-130 yards, 3 TDs rushing. Falcons were limited to just 85 yards total offense with three turnovers. Falcons are 0-2)
