Sara Sturgis detailed the planned events for the 2021 winter community celebration in Chatfield at the city council’s January 25 meeting. Councilor Mike Urban was absent.
Events include a drive-in movie on the Enterprise Drive lot on Friday night at 6-9 p.m. Events on Saturday begin at 8 a.m. and run through the day into the evening. Later in the day is the Candlelight Trail in Groen Park and “Bites & Barrels” dining in City Park surrounded by lighted trees and fire barrels. The dining in City Park will require preregistration and check-in will be staggered. COVID safety measures will be observed.
The use of the city parks/property was approved for the winter event. A temporary liquor license to VFW Post was approved for February 6.
Other business in brief
• The second consideration of Ordinance #450 (construction of fences and walls) was approved, as was its publication.
• The first consideration of Ordinance #451 (re-zoning of Chatfield Center for the Arts, Block 19) was approved. It will be rezoned from R-1 (Low Density Residential) to B-1 (General Commercial). The EDA requested the rezone in 2015 and the Planning Commission recommended the resolution to rezone be forwarded to the city council for their review and decision. This ordinance will amend the official zoning map of the city.
• Deputy Clerk Beth Carlson was inducted on January 4, 2021, into the Athenian Leadership Society as an Athenian Fellow. City Clerk Joel Young said the society dates back to Greek times. It is the international academy for municipal clerks. It is their responsibility as public officials to work to leave their city a better place. Young added he was proud to have her in the office where she leads for the public good.
• The annual ambulance agreement between Chatfield and Fillmore County was approved. The county agrees to pay $4,500 to be used for the ambulance service for the contract period between January 1 and December 31, 2021.
