Tim Gunn Candidate for Caledonia School Board
1. Tell us about yourself.
My name is Tim Gunn and I am running for Caledonia School Board. My wife and I moved to Caledonia eight years ago so we could be closer to our grandchildren and to live in a beautiful part of this great country. I am a retired police officer from the Chicagoland area (Downers Grove Police 20+ years, and Addison Police seven years). I received a B.S. from Eastern Illinois University in 1976. I have been involved with Caledonia for several years; four years with Community Spirit and three years with the Posse, volunteer, Houston County Sheriff Office.
2. Why are you running for office?
I am running for the school district for several reasons. I feel that my experience as a police officer and retired Lieutenant of Patrol Operations with an assignment to be the liaison with the Downers Grove School District safety committee, will assist my appraisal and knowledge of safety measures. Students need to be a feel safe in order to learn to their fullest. I am also planning to be focused on the attempt to reduce “bullying” in the schools. I would like to work out the details where a school liaison officer can be worked into the budget.
3. What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected?
Safer schools for all students and teachers. Incorporate a school liaison officer for all schools in Caledonia and work with the administration of each school to accomplish this. Review policies and procedures within the school district and make sure they are practical and workable for students and teachers alike. Attempt to make sure the schools are not run in a fashion that drifts toward new social norms and make sure they focus is on a curriculum of academics. Educate and keep the parents involved and informed in all facets of their students’ education.

Seth Louks Candidate for Caledonia School Board
1. Tell us about yourself.
My name is Seth Louks and I am a proud father of two children. My youngest is a first grade student at Caledonia Elementary School. I am passionate about keeping schools safe and take pride in being active within all schools in the community. I am running for school board because there are some issues and concerns I have as a parent and want to give back to the community.
2. Why are you running for office?
I am running for school board because the government, politicians and the media are focusing on the schools and want to push their agendas on the students by getting away from the teaching of classical curriculums which prepare them for their future and replacing them with curriculum and policies to indoctrinate our children to their liking. These are our children and the future of America. We as parents should always have the right to have input on curriculums, policies and procedures prior to them being passed and implemented within our schools.
3. What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected?
Empower parents through educational transparency. A parent should always be entitled to know what curriculums or activities their child is participating in and behaviors/identities they exhibit while in school.
Always support a classical style curriculum which equips students for their future rather than indoctrinating them.
Improve school safety by supporting the hire of a school resource officer.
Ensure all policy violations are fairly and equitably enforced.
Ensure schools stay open. Students need to interact with their peers. Masks and COVID vaccinations shouldn’t be required. If a student is sick they should stay home.

Michael Peterson Candidate for Caledonia School Board
1. Tell us about yourself.
I graduated from college in 2007 from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management and a Commercial Pilot license. I have worked as a flight instructor for Delta Air Lines since 2008. I am also a member of the Red Baron Flyers, based at the Houston County airport.
My wife Alissa (Klug) was born and raised in Caledonia, so we moved our family here in 2013 to be close to family and good schools. Alissa and I have three awesome kids: Winston (fifth grade), Della (second grade), and Koko (3K preschool).
2. Why are you running for office?
Irrational COVID-19 policies hurt kids. According to the Minnesota Department of Education, the number of Caledonia school district students who meet standards in math and science has dropped from 67% to 51% and from 52% to 36% respectively. Nationwide, rates of depression and anxiety in youth have skyrocketed.
In addition, biology has taken a backseat to gender theory. Caledonia School Board policy #545 outlines how the school can start using different gender pronouns for a child, without informing the parents.
Moms and dads need to stand up and say, “No thanks!” Our schools need transparency and common-sense policies.
3. What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected?
PARENTAL RIGHTS: Any school policy that restricts parental rights, such as #545, needs to be reviewed.
COMMON-SENSE: Irrational COVID-19 policies have caused enough damage. These policies need to be eliminated.
SCHOOL SAFETY: Bullying continues to be an issue in our schools. No child should have to go to school worried about their safety.
TRANSPARENCY: The purpose of our schools is to educate not indoctrinate. We need a school board that will keep political activism out of our schools and keep parents informed.
